Wander past the main entrance to the cathedral church, and you come to the museum entrance: Enter it to see some truly fantastic treasures.
The Canoscio Treasure dates from the 5th century and includes a collection of pots, dishes and liturgical objects discovered before the Second World War at nearby Canoscio. The chance find is unbelievably fine.
Throughout the museum are pieces linked with services, church leaders and papal occasions.
It is well worth a visit - even a diversion from your planned trip.
Among the important paintings in the museum are the “Madonna and Child with St. John”, attributed to Bernardino di Betto (known as Il Pinturicchio, 1454-1513), a pupil of Perugino.

You will not believe that the artifacts in this museum are stashed away in a little city you may not have heard of, but they are. This museum is a must see, as soon as you've wandered the ancient city around it.
