About
Enoteca Falorni is the largest enoteca in Tuscany featuring over 1,000 selected wines with more than 100 wines available for tasting, using the innovative enomatic(R) system. The Enoteca is located underground in the historical centre of Greve in Chianti on the site of the first large wine cellar founded by noble land owners of the area (considered the authentic fore bearers of the Chianti Classico consortium). The historical structure has ample spaces with arched brick ceilings, corridors and smaller rooms (originally used as grape storage areas) and tells the story of its long history as a wine cellar that for years represented the economic heart of Greve in Chianti, boasting a line of illustrious owners. Constructed in 1893 by Ernesto Leproni, the location was used as cellars by the Union of Chianti Classico producers in 1906 and subsequently purchased in 1913 by Count Emanuele Mirafiori d'Alba, until being sold to the Gancia di Canelli brothers in 1932. In the 1960's and 1970's the site belonged to the Italo-American dei Paterno family and was left in an abandoned state in 1975. In 1999 the premises were purchased by the Bencista Falorni family and were transformed into the present day Enoteca Falorni, with the aim to promote and give valour to Chianti Classico wines. Its elegance and the presence of more than 1,000 principally Tuscan wines with others from further Italian regions as well as sparkling wines, dessert wines, grappa and olive oil render the Enoteca Falorni an authentic "temple to wine".

but the execution lacks...
Very tempting to try all the wines available in one spot and also prepaid tasting cards are not a problem - as you get the money back that you don't use - which we did
Great venue in restored old vaults, too
The problem was in the wines really and this leads me to the poor overall marking here - it's a wine place in the end
Apart from one wine (a cilled moscato) all the wines tried appeared tired ano old - some tasted phenolic but most just oxidised - after not likeing my first two tatstings sampled a wine i knew well and it was neigh on undrinkable - so I am sure it is not a wine problem but a venue problem
Possibly due to us coming in off season and low turnover, however at their sample prices they cannot allow the wines to get stale (bad for them and for the wineries) - better reduce the amount of samples in less busy times
Prices are on the high side also with some bottles commanding higher than restaurant prices to take away -
Good idea but needs to be delivered differently

We visited last week and generally had a very good experience. Sampled lots of wines and had a lovely lunch. We bought two bottles of Crociani Montepulciano 2012 Riserva at 28 Euro each. When I got home I checked the prices online and found that Crociani and another online retailer is selling them at 18 Euros each. I wrote to Enoteca Falorni to ask why - here is my email exchange with them. As you can see, it is a 55% mark up.
Hello
I visited your shop last Thursday and bought two bottles of Crociani Montepulciano 2012 Riserva at 28 Euro each. I am now home and doing some research about the wine and see it on the Crociani website as well as other sites at around 18 Euro. Please can you tell me why I was charged 10 Euro per bottle more?
+++
Hello dear Andrew,
Thank you for writing us,
I am very sorry for this email, the question is very simple to answer, according to the agreements that we have with the producers and also having a high quality service our prices are different in many cases, some higher and some lower.
The same reason you could find the same pair of shoes at a lower price in a shop and at a higher in another. You may also consider that an online shop don’t have the same management costs of a specialist shop.
Hope that I have answered you’re question and hope to see you again and see that we also have many prices lower then on the market.
Best regards,
+++
Thanks for your reply. I understand you may have additional costs and need to make a margin but I don't think 55% is fair. That does not represent good value for money at all.
++++
End
In summary, good experience but if you want to buy wine from here, be prepared to pay a big mark up.

Good selection and great wine tasting by the glass. Several stations, 2 chianti, 1 classico, Suoer Tuscans, Chianti reserva. Tasting is affordable for such aan establishment. Selection of wine vast. Sting in the tail: Never heard of tax free - sorry my English doesn't go that far - Really, a shop of this quality should wake up. Watch the high end prices - EXPENSIVE. Solaia Euro 290, just go to the square of Greve and get the same bottle for Euro 205, although no tax free either. Sassicaia also at least 10-15% more expensive tahn around the corner. BUT wine tatsing was good.

We visited Greve in Chianti with friends and after lunch in the piazza we decided to taste some wines. This place offers around 140 wines so it was the obvious choice.
The process is easy, add €5 to €50 on a plastic card at reception, walk over to the optics, insert your card and choose away. We spent nearly two hours tasting some really great wines and even bought a couple of bottles to take home. The machines allow you to pour a mouthful; half a glass; or a full glass. If you plan on tasting more than 6 wines I'd stick to the mouthful option..!!
The wines were of very good quality and a mouthful cost from €0.8 to €8 a shot.
You can order food here and for the non-tasters / drivers coffee is also available.

This is a must visit wine bar where you can sample every wine sold in Italy. We had lunch at this bar containing cured meats, cheese and bread and of course quality wine. A terrific atmosphere and wonderful ambiance to sample what Italy truely has to offer.

A wine ATM :-)
You buy a card, insert in the "wine-ATM" and choose the wine desired in the amount desired. Take your time, roam around, try wines you would ordinarily order.
There is also an olive oil dispenser, free of charge, and bread to taste it with.
The place is beautiful and elegant.
We really enjoyed ourselves there!

One of the best things we did while spending 3 weeks in Italy. So many wines to taste and such fun using their machines. Had lasagna for lunch an it was wonderful. We had a great time but children would be bored.

Unassuming on the outside, blown away on the inside. A plethora of Tuscan wines await at this enoteca. Not only by the glass or bottle, but in serve yourself wine dispensers scattered throughout. A virtual wine tour of Tuscany is yours for the taking as you wind through the store sampling wines from the various regions. We had a salad and charcuterie board that were both very good. Definitely a must visit destination if in the area
