If you want to do a bike tour of Chianti, this is the guy you should use. Marco Antonio Pacenti of Discovery Chianti bike tours was fantastic. He customized a day long bike tour for us based on our preferences and skill sets. Not only was the biking fantastic, but his knowledge and story telling about Chianti made the day that much more interesting. And he capped it off with a delicious homemade lunch at his home, followed by a private wine tasting at a local winery in Greve. It was a day well worth experiencing.

This was our favorite day in Italy. My husband, son (14) and I did a e-bike tour and just loved it. Marco was great at understanding what interest us and totally pivoted accordingly. We ended with a great lunch in a courtyard in Greve and then a drink in Marco's gardens.

I experienced the best tour bike ever in the Chianti area thanks to Discovery Chianti. I was able to see things I would have never seen without the help of a professional tour guide such as Marco Pacenti. He made my experience a memorable one and can't wait to go back to Greve again in 2012. Thank you Marco and I look forward to seeing you again soon!

My husband and I decided to honeymoon in Italy. We stayed in the Castellano de Spaltenna, and had planned a bike trip through the Chianti region with Discovery Chianti. We biked regularly about 2-3 years ago, but not since. However, we both work out and thought it would be no sweat.

The day didn't go quite as planned since I was very nervous about biking on the narrow roads along with the zooming cars. Marc Antonio generously changed the itinerary the night before to bike on gravel paths. We didn't exactly realize it would be more difficult, and had trouble getting up (and down) the hills after the first hour. We skipped a wine tasting because we didn't think we'd be able to bike the grueling path after drinking at 11 AM. We also walked our bikes up some very steep hills. But the whole time, Marco was extremely patient with us and very accommodating. I have nothing but good things to say about him. He and his wife made us a lovely picnic lunch, and he even biked ahead at the end to pick up the van when we couldn't go any further.

My only advice is to know your biking level beforehand!

This was truly the highlight of our stay in Tuscany. Marco responded quickly to our request for a tour and organised a ride according to our fitness levels. We cycled through vineyards and rolling hills getting the most amazing views of castles and ancient dwellings. We were then given an informative and interesting tour of a winery where we did some wine tasting of the beautiful Chianti wines. We finished off with a traditional Italian lunch where we were able to chat a bit more with Marco who is so knowledgeable and obviously a proud ambassador of his beautiful homeland. This tour was worth every cent and I would do it again in a heartbeat!

Just spent a day on a full-day bike ride/wine tasting tour with Marco. We had a wonderful time enjoying the sights in the Greve area. Marco was very thorough and ready to work with riders of all experience levels. He was very knowledgeable about all aspects of local history and the wine industry. We even got a tour of the local wine museum as a bonus. I would highly recommend “Discovery Chianti” if you’re looking for a fun outdoor activity while visiting Tuscany.

My husband and I spent a day with Marco on a private cycling tour. The ride was nothing short of spectacular. Marco is a great guide! He rode at a compatible pace and took breaks to point out local points of interest at just the right times when he knew we needed a break! The equipment (i.e. road bikes and helmets) were high end and in excellent working order. My husband brought his clip pedals and shoes and Marco happily switched the pedals for him. The route was challenging (hilly as you would expect) but rewarding including beautiful views of the Chianti region. Following the ride, Marco hosted us for lunch at his house. The lunch was delicious and his home is beautiful and inviting. I would highly recommend hiring Marco for an outdoor adventure!

Our family of 6 followed Marco Antonio on a 16 mile bike ride through the Tuscany area. It was a moderate ride with some big hills. But we all managed and had a great time. The scenery and Marco's description of the landscape were interesting and informative. We had a wonderful lunch at the end of our ride prepared by Marco and his wife. It was delicious and a great experience all around for our family.

Exploring Chianti (near Greve) on the bike was a great experience. Marco was a wonderful guide and happy to customise our tour to suit our biking abilities. The countryside is not flat and there are some hills you need to be prepared for. Marco was happy to give us all the time we needed to conquer these hills and was patient and supportive. The bike ride was more enjoyable because Marco had a great depth of knowledge of the area. We made many stops near various historical attractions and learnt a lot about the region. We had lunch in the warm sun, using local produce supplied by Marco and that was enjoyable, sitting next to our bikes admiring the Chianti region's wonderful vista. The tour was for 3 hours but it was closer to 4 hours due to our slow biking but that did not bother Marco and we did not miss out on any sites. We chose not to visit the wineries as we thought that biking and wine was a not a good combination for us. In any case there was a cellar that contained many wines from the region that Marco recommended so we had our tasting after the bike ride. At the end of the trip Marco provided us with a small momento of the experience. Great day! Would recommend it to anyone with some interest in biking but you do need to have minimum fitness - Chianti means hills!

Recently we stayed at a most beautiful Castle - Castello Vicchiomaggio whilst travelling through the Tuscany region. Built high on a hill, surrounded by vineyards, the views from the infinity swimming pool and delightful gardens, were as good as anywhere we had travelled throughout the Tuscan region. The accommodation was charming within the 2000 year old castle which boasted it's own chapel. The highlight of our stay was a tour of the vineyard and cellar, followed by a degustation in the Castle restaurant (ballroom), accompanied by wine from the vineyard, including medal winning Chianti Classico. Wine maker John Matta (Italian Wine Maker of the Year 1997, 2002 and 2005) was our host and made our stay a memorable one. His attention to detail was obvious. Only a five minute drive into the delightful town of Greve in Chianti, this was our little gem found in Tuscany and one I would happily recommend.
