As others have written the hike is a bit easier from Levanto to Monterosso because doing it reverse means you have a greater ascent to tackle with lots of steps. The train between the two small towns takes 5 mins and costs 4 euro. Both have beaches and plenty of places to eat and drink.

My husband and I are regular hikers in our mid 50s and the trail took us 2 hours. It is stony and rocky but not too difficult. I would class it as moderate.

The hike is reasonably varied with good sea views from ahigh and some very steep drop offs in places. About 3/4 way round the view of Monterosso and the coastline with the other Cinque Terre towns in the distance is breathtaking.

very good train service-clean, covid-19 safe, and regular, unlike the boat service.
Only drawback: 4€ for a sort rie between each of the 5 Terre villages was a bit pricey. Better to buy a 5 Terre card for the day if you want to stop at each place.

This is a pleasant trekking path. At the end of this trekking you can enjoyed the view of the 5 villages of Cinque Terre. Make a stop at the Punta Mesco, before going dawn to Monterosso.

We, four ladies 63-72, walked this trail a few days ago, I say walk in the most general sense, from Monterosso to Levanto. The climb up is relentless, and, for the vertically challenged, more of a climb than walk up tall steps, the wonderful views and sense of achievement did much to offset the steep ascent followed by a descent on very rocky, craggy and narrow trails, frequently too narrow to for two to pass each other without one giving way in a marginally wider passing place. I consider myself to be hiking fit and would have taken 3.5 hours (allowing for frequent photo ops) but it took two of are company 6.5 hours with frequent rest stops. I would have given five stars except for the lack of information about the nature of the hike. Water is essential, and snacks such almonds and dried apricots advisable. If the weather suits take a refreshing dip in the sea when you finally arrive in Levanto, or Monteresso if you go the other way.

I had read about the hike from Levanto to Monterosso being very beautiful, about 3 hours and moderately difficult. The scenery was extremely breathtaking however we were not avid hikers so the 3 hour hike became 4 1/2 hours. It was difficult at some points but stopping to gaze and take pictures of the magnificent views made the hike tolerable. We are so glad we did it because we saw Levanto, Monterosso and the other villages from a different vantage point. This was our third trip to Italy and although the towns of CT were nice, most were a little too touristy for us. The hikes gave us a wonderful memory of CT.

Obviously the first section is going to be uphill, and there are many boulders, loose gravel etc. but if you have the right shoes on it is quite easy. Awesome views along the way.

Amazing views on this hike which will take most people 2.5-3.5 hrs. On a hot day make sure you have plenty of water. Steps on the Monterosso end are fatiguing in either direction.

It was quite warm but since it is not a hard hike it was excellent. Nice views, beautiful sea and not too many people.

this coastal trail is BEYOND amazing. Tough terrain and long uphill stretches but worth every second!
