It is the city's Cathedral, it dates back to 1132 and over the centuries it has had to overcome a thousand vicissitudes that have changed its layout and architectural style. Originally in Romanesque style, in the 18th century after various transformations and restorations it changed to the Baroque style with coffered ceilings, and in the 19th century the neoclassical style was adopted. But still, the vicissitudes of the Cathedral did not end, since during the Second World War the heavy bombings and in 1980 the strong earthquake made it necessary for a major reconstruction

We saw it again after some time externally while meeting friends on tour in the city.
The external facade is very beautiful and attractive and catches your eye in a bewitching and evocative way.
To be seen!

This is the main church in Avellino and it's in the historic center. If you visit the church, take the opportunity to have a walk around it and see the all the historic center. There is a Roman Crypt there but Unfortunately I haven't been there.

We stopped in Avellino to see the Duomo. It was in the morning on a Tuesday and we assumed it would be open. There was an exterior door open but the inner door was shut and locked. We looked all around trying to find someone to no avail. Usually churches are open until noon and then close for three to three and a half hours in the afternoon reopening at 3 PM or 3:30 PM. We were disappointed.
