You are fully compensated for the 9km of rough dirt road. The sandy beach is magnificent, the crystal clear water inviting and the serenity of the place (at least when I was there in Mid July) simply enchanting. Recommended.

We decided to visit Achla Beach by taking the 4,2km hiking trail starting from Agios Nicholaos Monastery (you can park there). It’s not a difficult trail, but you need to wear trekking sandals or sneakers. It is a very panoramic trail that offers beautiful views of the bay which is waiting for you just below... Going down is relaxing and it will take about 1,5hrs. I would recommend to go early in the morning, to avoid the heat and to enjoy Achla Beach before it is “attacked” by the tourists who get there by boat (you will see them after 11am). Take plenty of water with you and something to eat, because Achla Beach is worth to stay for the day! Take your time when you decide to come back “up” because that is obviously a little bit harder and we took about 2 hrs to complete it.

We jumped on a boat from Chora and 30 minutes later we arrived at this lovely peaceful beach. A family of swans visited us. Well worth a visit. No cafes or ice cream vans, just enjoy the swimming and exploring the cave.

Visited this impressive beach by road, taking in the wonderful scenery with bated breath at each hairpin bend! Great to get there fairly early to have loads of space BUT then all the day trippers arrived on a flotilla of tour boats of all shapes and sizes and it was time to leave! Will return, but definitely out of season

The beach is really nice and extremely quiet in early June. We walked there from the monastery. The way down is easy, the way up a bit harder (but we did it in 1h15). Shadow is sparse on the path and on the beach, so bring water and sun lotion. At this period, no beach bar was visible.
