I fall in love with this charming part of the city. Day or night I enjoyed seamlessly roaming the narrow streets full of boutiques, taverns, galleries and little houses where still the locals live, not just seized by tourists. From some parts there as beautiful views of the city. Unfortunately some buildings such as the Tower or museum which are currently under the reconstruction.

100% the best thing i did in Greece. T

he kastro is an old fortress surrounded by the old town. Trust me, you will get lost when you go looking for this but that's part if the experience. Incrediblely beautiful narrow streets lead you inexorably upwards until you arrive in the Cathedral Square in the middle of the Kastro. The whole area did not feel like a tourist destination to me, but something far more authentic.

Make sure to visit during siesta when the streets are at their quietest, but also get there early to enjoy the museum, cafe and Cathedral which all close at 3 i think.

Return in the evening for dinner, wine and the old town by night!

We spent more than 30 minutes walking around the narrow streets above the harbor, looking for The Castle. When we asked directions, we received vague answers like “just keep going up.” We could see what looked like the walls of a fortress from below, but never really found it when we were up on the hill. Later, at our hotel, we were told it is an area more than a single building.

Still, it was a nice walk, with views of the old town and some interesting shops.

Well, it hasn’t been easy to find the Castro, cause there is not any more a proper Castro or at least how was translated by the English guide. This is more a medieval citadel, and the architecture is not very dissimilar by the rest of old town. Within there is the Catholic Church, nice bar with view, and stores. But do not except much, it is just a continuation of the old town.

A construction around which the city was found. Unfortunately undermaintained and now a days closed, maybe for construction, which isn't obvious. To be found on the top of the Old city, which actually is pretty charming as a climbing to the top companion.

it is not a castle indeed but rather a residence of local noble ... it is located on the top hill of naxos, facing the main port ... visitors should visit all rooms inside, because of the rich collection of daily living equipent from the past ... if you are a fan of old furniture, cutlery and books, don't dare to miss this place .. thre is also a bonus: the cellar ...

If you are visiting Naxos Island is a must to visit the castle of Naxos. We spend half day in order to walk in the old town and see the nice architecture of the buildings close to the castle and walking through doors and windows (is like you are in other century).
We enjoy our day not only seeing the small castle and enjoying the amazing view but also walking thought the passages of the castle to small souvenir shops and to the small artistic coffee shops.

The Kastro portion of Naxos Town is the original on which the rest of the old town is built around. The streets are not long but are a maze. The castle at the top is a bit surprising to get to. There is not much of a castle as one would expect. The residents and shops have taken over and become part of it. We went into one antique shop (can't remember the name) but it had pillars that were from 200 to 300 BC that had been recycled from an ancient colosseum which was common throughout Greek history. They were now being used as beam supports for the shop. Wow. Only in Greece. Love it.

The castle is hardly something distinct. You see some evidence of the walls in the circular area partway up after a substantial climb. Try to visit the archeological museum and tower once up near the top, but go early, because these places close at 15:00!
