Sunset is the time to visit - luckily you can't step through the gateway to the afterlife as it is roped off! Surface hopeless for disabled or wheelchairs of any type but it is at the port and totally visible even if you can't get up there. As the sky colours change, the effect is enchanting. It's also free!

You cannot miss this landmark as it dominates Naxos' 'skyline'. It is a huge door ( Porta means Door) which is supposed to be the entrance to an ancient temple (530 BC) that was never finished. Fortunately, later conquerors could not destroy it due to its size and it is there for us to admire it. You can walk up... More

Easy to spot and access, the view of Naxos and the surrounding seas is gorgeous. The archaeological site itself is small and there's nothing beyond the pictures shown to discover.

We strolled there as part of our evening walking from the center. The place is somehow magical with the night views to Naxos old town The structure itself is amazing with its large dimensions Be careful the path is not lighted properly But this is a great escape from noisy crowded Naxos at evening time Mostly recommended! !

The Portara is a huge doorframe to a temple that was never quite realized. In some ways the remaining doorway is even cooler because it is just an open door overlooking Naxos. The actual site has a foundation and this door, so while very cool its not quite the architectural feat that the Parthenon is.

If you don't see anything else in Naxos, just go see this place! It's perfect! The view is magnificent and the waves are hypnotizing! My favorite spot in Naxos!

As the ferry pulls into the port this ancient ruin is impossible to miss. It is a short walk from the town and not to be missed
