Nicolas Lagiere is a true Renaissance man. He is an expert tour guide and covers history, botany, architecture, archeology, nature and all things Naxos! We spent two fabulous days with Nicolas exploring aspects of Naxos that we could not have learned about on our own. He has developed a kind, familial rapport with shop owners, restaurants and Naxos specialty producers and they welcomed him (and us) with open arms. Nicolas blended a variety of activities into our two days with him such that we got a well-rounded understanding of the island. I highly recommend Nicolas as a great private guide but also as an amazing man who loves what he does. He also knows how to pick great restaurants!

Nicolas is without a doubt the best tour guide we have ever had in our many years of taking tours in different regions of the world! He is incredibly knowledgeable about history, mythology, botany, archeology, etc. He is extremely fluent in English (and, we found out, 6 other languages!), easy to understand (barely any accent), and easy going. He has great connections with true local folks, and because of that he was able to take us to some places that other guides would not have access to. Heartily recommend him and hope to use him again (he gives tours of regions other than Naxos in the off-season).

Since our son had raved about his earlier experience with Nicolas, we booked an afternoon tour with him when we visited Naxos with another couple. Everything others have said here about his study and mastery of all aspects of Naxos is true - history, architecture, botany, culture. His deep curiosity and knowledge is inspiring and fascinating, and his well-cultivated, respectful relationships with local merchants, artists, vendors and farmers is extraordinary. But he is also helpful and resourceful: the day before our tour, we had to inform him that our party would be only 2 people, since the 2 others had become positive for COVID during our travels and, though feeling well, naturally didn’t want to put anyone at risk by riding in Nicolas’s car, even masked. Nicolas offered the brilliant solution of arranging a rental car for them (a rare feat made possible by one of those well-earned relationships) so they could follow us around the island to all the (primarily outdoor) sites. He made this happen instantly, and made it effortless for our friends. We’re grateful that all four of us were able to enjoy this rich and wonderful experience together.

We are two older couples who arranged a 7 hour tour with Nicolas. He is truly amazing in terms of his knowledge, his charming manner and his familiarity with the island. We wanted to see churches, small villages, historic sites, do some shopping, have an authentic lunch, and mix up being driven and getting out of the car for walks and great vistas.
This was a tour we will never forget. The cost was 90 Euros per person and very much worth it. Nicolas can customize the tour…we booked months ahead by email and then exchanged our ideas and his recommendations and the tour he offered was perfect.
This is a “must do” if you are on Naxos since you could not replicate what we saw if you tried on your own.

We had an awesome experience with Nicholas as seemingly everyone else has. He was super flexible with our itinerary and picked us up from the beach where we had spent the morning and dropped us back at our hotel in town after the tour. He was great with COVID protocols and let us know that in addition to being vaccinated, he tests himself twice a week just to ensure he isn't exposing any of his clients.
We visited the Temple of Demeter and then spent the bulk of our time hiking the loop trail between the villages of Chalki and Moni up in the mountains. While this isn't that challenging by hiking standards, there's still a fair incline in spots and he was great about stopping to tell us about whatever plants and trees we were passing as an excuse to give us out of shape Americans a break when needed. Speaking of which, it was amazing how much he knows about every shrub and plant on the island. He'd just pick leaves off the trees for us to smell as we walked along and it would turn out to be fresh oregano or something else we never would have recognized.
Despite him not being Greek, he's clearly endeared himself to the locals and they treat him like one of their own. In the villages we got wonderful samples of honey and the local Citron liquor and NEVER felt any pressure to buy things.
Finally, in addition to being a great guide, Nicholas is just a fun guy to hang out with. Our favorite part of the experience might have just been chatting with him about whats it's like living and working in the tourism industry in Greece during the pandemic. I highly recommend giving him your business if you're able. You won't regret it.

The 6-hour tour with Nicolas was the highlight of our trip to Naxos. We are a family of five (including 3 teens), and we cannot recommend him enough. He is super knowledgeable & a true renaissance man. I had a good feeling about Nicolas from the minute I emailed him. His responses were prompt and extensive, not to mention complete with an insider's perspective and insight. We emailed Nicolas the evening before our tour to request some last-minute changes to the itinerary, and he was more than happy to oblige. We couldn't have been more pleased with the recommendations he made. Our tour was a combination of fascinating archaeological sites, history, local products & towns, and a short hike to a 4th century church built into a mountain-side cave (so cool!). Nicolas knew how to best schedule the activities so as to avoid crowds and the heat of the day. He even checked the cave to make sure there were no bats inside :) Wish we'd had time to book another tour with him. He is simply the best.

I waited a day to write this review because there was so much to absorb and reflect on. Nicholas is a truly knowledgeable tour guide who seems to continually study and learn about the island he’s called home for the last six years. He had a true appreciation of all the island has to offer and his enthusiasm is contagious! Our family of four (2 teens, 2 adults) each had favorites. We saw ancient temples, churches large and small, talked to locals in their weaving and food shops and distillery and priests in churches, ate lunch at the fabulous Rotonda, and each place we went greeted Nicolas like an old friend, and treated us like long, lost family, wishing all five of us Kalo Mina (a good month). From the sea to the mountains to the farmland, go tour with Nicholas! We were tired, happy people people at the end of our half day together and feel like we saw corners of Naxos that make all four of us want to learn more!

I have traveled extensively and cannot recall an experience to equal our two days with Nicolas. We hiked through villages one day and the next day, we hiked up to Mt. Zeus. Nicolas is an extraordinary individual who made the landscape come to life for us, pointing out and explaining small miracles such a small flower pushing out from the cracks in the stone or walking us through history at an extraordinary monastery in the most beautiful setting. I am far from the most fit individual, and he allowed me and my family enough time to reach the summit - an achievement I will always cherish. From the time of our pick up, throughout the hikes, and even at meals at local taverns, Nicolas showed us a side of Naxos we would never had seen on our own. He has our highest recommendation.

We had two full days on Naxos recently, so for the first day we booked a tour with Nicholas Lagiere of Naxos Discovery Private Guided Tours. It was a fantastic introduction to the island. We visited archeological sites such as the temple at Yiroulas, picturesque small villages, and had lunch at Rotonda with a magnificent view over the village of Filoti.
Nicholas also gave us great suggestions for things to do on our second day, and restaurant recommendations. He tailors the tour to the participants and his sincere love of the island shows through in all his descriptions, interactions with the local people, and his extensive knowledge. We couldn't have asked for a better tour guide.

We met Nicolas when we arrived into Naxos by ferry and then started our discovery tour of the island. We knew we would never see Naxos properly without a guide and Nicolas was amazing! His love for the island was immediately apparent and he was warmly welcomed everywhere we went. We really loved the small family chapels that he took us to and were captivated by the frescoes he showed us. We toured the Temple of Demeter and the Museum and then drove to the village of Chalkio to visit the Fish and and Olive Pottery, the Church of Saint George and the Kitron Distillery, but the highlight while in Chalkio was to Naxio Shop where we had several tastings and bought way too many things including some amazing olive oil! We also drove way up into the hills to the Rotonda Restaurant for a wonderful meal and spectacular views! Another highlight of the day for me was visiting the village of Apiranthos because I really love architecture. With its stone built towers, old houses with amazing doors, lovely wee churches, marble paved alleyways and traditional local craftsmanship shops at every turn it is an absolute delight. Without Nicolas’s excellent guidance we would have missed so much. He gave us just a small taste of the islands treasures which made us hunger for more. Hopefully some day soon we will be able to discover more!

Im addressing this question to the owner of the Naxos Discovery Private Guided Tours . Is your business legal? How do you do the tours? By coach?By using rental cars? How much do you charge your customers and do you give them receipts authorised by tax office ? Are you authorised tour guide or insured driver at IkA (social security) ?l m waiting for your answers and proof of them.
