Stella is a brilliant tour guide who is part guide, part historian and part entertainer. My partner and I have been on two of her hiking tours including one with a young family member. She knows her subject very well: the geography, history and the natural world of Naxos and beyond. We soaked up nearly everything there was to see and know about our multiple 'village-in-the hills' tours and ended up, on one occasion, at an amazing little restaurant in a magical location at sunset. A lovely experience thank you Stella.

We had a lovely hike with Stella at Naxos Hiking today. We are a family of 4 with two young children (7 & 8 years old), and the hike was perfectly tailored to our needs. Stella is a local and is very knowledgeable about the history of Naxos & the islands; the local culture; and the environment. We smelled lavender & thyme, picked almonds & plums, learned about bougainvillea and olives, visited ancient statues and saw mountaintop marble quarries. She talked about the 1821 struggle for Greek independence; the dry stone wall building techniques; the Greek Orthodox church; the origins of ancient Cycladic culture; Greek saints; Naxian island dialects; the religious significance of basil plants; and the logic, beauty and historical importance of both ancient and modern Greek languages. All while making sure we started and ended our tour on time! We'd recommend Stella to anyone. (She also arranged transportation to & from the hike.)

Where to start...? A hike with Stella is not to be missed (we did the 7 villages trail) Stella helped organise our transport from our hotel to the hike start point. Communication in the lead up was easy and clear, we felt comfortable asking any and all questions.
Our group was a range of ages but Stella regularly checked on all of us and ensured everyone had as comfortable time as possible.
On Stella's advice we started early (8am) to avoid the heat of the day and found ourselves at a local taverna for lunch a quick 5 and a half hours later. The hike itself took us through a variety of landscapes and terrains, each accompanied by Stella's local knowledge on the plants and villages we passed through. There was a welcomed half way stop in a small taverna to use the bathroom and replenish cold drinks.
We would recommend bringing lots of water, wearing comfortable trainers/boots (sandals would not be suitable), long trousers as some of the plants are very spiky and paths extremely narrow along with plenty of cash for transport, lunch, and Stella herself!

After last year's amazing Seven Villages walk with the incredible Stella, we booked with her again this year and had another epic hike in the wild mountainous interior of Naxos, starting in the pretty village of Korounos and ending up with a swim and delicious lunch at Lionas Bay, walking along ancient marble paths, among the dry stone walls and olive groves, encountering goats and mules, and picking fresh figs and grapes along the way. Stella is such a great character with such energy, passion for and knowledge of her native Naxos. If booking for the first time I would advise the Seven Villages walk which was more varied, but this one was great too!
We hadn't rented a car so she kindly came to Naxos Town to collect us and made sure we got back ok (thanks Leanne for the ride!). Thank you Stella!

Koronos to Lionas Bay private tour (2 of us) with Stella. One of the best experiences we could have asked for. Would recommend this without any reservation to anybody wanting to get out of town for a bit, see Naxos, walk/hike for several hours, and spend genuine time with a kind, fun, knowledgeable and wonderful local!
Communication: Easy with Stella over email from the start. She reached out within a day of my inquiry via her website, and then emailed back and forth on logistics without issue. She was patient and kind in answering all questions. She is a fantastic tour guide.
Getting there: Rented a car from Naxos Town and drove to Koronos to meet Stella. Took about an hour. It was a drive of medium difficulty - hair-point turns, narrow roads through villages and some steep roads but overall a fun experience in itself to drive there and see the island. Guard rails at all points and felt safe. Can also hire taxi to get out there/back but expensive.
Hike: About 5 miles and took us about 4 hours (slightly slower due to rain). Downhill for a couple of hours, uphill for an hour, then downhill to Lionas Bay. Scenic path for all of the way. Stella provides “aromatherapy”, pointing out the wild herbs that grow all along the path. Passed tons of olive trees and ate figs from fig trees. Met a local farmer that Stella knows and walked 1/4 mile with him and his Mule. Beautiful scenery everywhere you look, as you hike through a ravine. Amazing. I’m afraid of steep drops/cliffs and only a couple of places were iffy for me but doable.
Footing is fine but only if you have appropriate shoes. We were OK with running/athletic shoes. Not a consistently demanding hike but there are portions that definitely require good fitness.
Lionas Bay: Possibly the best part, at the end. Beautiful when it comes into view. We changed once down there (there are changing rooms), swam for a bit in the beautiful water, met a friend of Stella’s, and ate at Delfinaki - absolutely delicious, Greek home style cooking. We then toured around Lionas for 30 minutes with Stella before the restaurant owner drove us back to Koronos.
Thank you so much Stella. If we ever make it back, we will reach out for another walk!

My wife and I did Stella's hike #8, from Skado to Apollonas in mid-July. The hike itself took about 5 hours, and I would categorize the hike as moderately difficult if you're in relatively good shape. But the hike was one of our most unforgettable experiences of our time on Naxos and I could not recommend a hike with Stella any more. She is an absolute wealth of knowledge about the island and it is a perfect way to get off the beaten path or the main touristy areas. The hike was also a superb way to taste the best of Naxos - we passed by tons of plum trees, figs, grapes, and other wonderful herbs. We picked some of the plums to enjoy during the walk! The village of Komiaki, which the hike passes through, is a hidden gem that you would never experience otherwise.
A few notes that I would add: you will need a car to reach the starting point in Skado, and purchase a bus ticket before going on your hike. You will need it to take the bus back from Apollonas to the starting point. Would not recommend this particular hike (#8) to anyone traveling with young children. Bring a few Euros with you to buy something from the store owner in Komiaki, if you wish to use the restroom - that will be your only opportunity.

This was one great spectacular hiking tour we did with Sella, from Koronos to Lionas Bay. Stella is a wonderful guide, very knowledgeable, whether it's history, geography, botanics, she explained every bit all along the hike through the incredible nature that is Naxos island and this despite we took our time and the hike took double the time as it normally would on a hot hot August day. At the end, we landed up on Lionas Bay for a nice swim and then to a Taverna for lunch and back to Koronos. And it didn't just stop there after our return to the departure point. Stella went out of her way and accompanied us and showed us few more spots on the island on our way back to Chora which we may not have done on our own. I can go on and on with my superlatives but it still wouldn't do justice as would a live experience. We would have liked to stay on and do other tours with Stella but that would be for next time. I highly recommend Stella's Naxos hiking tours and one would have no regrets. This tour is permanently etched in our memories and still very fresh.

By far our highlight of Naxos was our day hike of Seven villages with Stella. I thought I was booking a private tour but a family of 5 showed up at the last minute to join us. While initially disappointed, they were very nice and the trek was still great. As other reviewers noted, Stella is a fountain of knowledge about everything Greek. I’m an avid gardener so loved her frequent stops to point out herbs and various plants. It is a long hike, made longer by a large group, but we totally enjoyed it and would highly recommend booking her as early as possible. My only regret is that Stella wasn’t available any of the other days we were in Naxos. We would have booked her for the duration of our time in Naxos, otherwise. Lunch at the taverna was really good. It gave us an opportunity to try things we wouldn’t have ordered on our own.

What an amazing hike. I underestimated this experience going into it, and Stella just blew us out of the water. Stella is such a kind soul, she is really the star of the show, but the scenery is just incredible as well. We did the Koronos to Lionas Bay, and would do it again in a heartbeat.
We hiked through gorgeous mountains to arrive at literally the best beach we visited during our entire trip to Greece. Crystal clear water, I've never seen anything like it and we have been to many beaches in the US and Europe. The beach restaurant was everything you could want from a beachside restaurant, and the owner is a gem of a man. If you are in Naxos, you should take a hike with Stella, it will be one of the best things you do on your trip.

A truly adventurous walk from Melanes, on trails that I would not have found myself. Stella provided the perfect stroll through amazing scenery, including a very old monastery, carefully tucked away. Often stopping off to give local insights and comments on the flora and fauna too. A really great value-for-money walking experience.
