We were standing in front of the building when suddenly a friendly gentleman looked out of the window and spontaneously invited us to a short tour of the building.
And lo and behold, it was Monsieur Petit-Lieberz, the owner.
The house is considered to be one of the oldest houses in Rhineland-Palatinate. It has been privately owned by the aforementioned Petit-Lieberz family for around 300 years.
The house was built in the middle of the 15th century by the Rhine boatman Peter Ackermann. Investigations have shown that the beams of the half-timbering date back to 1438. The entire property was inaugurated in 1450, as the inscription above the front door attests. The winery has a garden and a wine press house, in which 2 high cellars and a draw well are still preserved.
The 'private' and spontaneous tour was very interesting and we had a very nice conversation.
A lovely experience in Bacharach.

One of the most beautiful half-timbered houses in Bacharach. Of the original stone building, built first half 15th century, only the substructure was preserved, its half-timbered-floor in Rhenish Gothic style dates from the 16th century. The House was built in 1420 for Peter Ackermann, but its name is derived from Franz von Sickingen who, with his family members, lived here for a long time. Now owned by the family of John Lieberz. The House was built in standard style: the vertical bars consist of a single tribe, in this beamwork were horizontal gradient bars inserted. As this style did hot have much stability was the dais was invented (overhang part of a building), hereby Covenant one horizontal gradient bars with short vertical bars. Due to this difference it is easily noticeable which ones are the older homes.

If you stroll along Oberstrasse you pass Haus Sickingen. It was built in the 15th century and is said to have been in possession of the knight's family von Sickingen. Historically it is not sure that Franz von Sickingen - a promoter of Protestant reformation - lived here.
Open to the public only on special occasions.

We love the old German half-timbered homes and Haus Sickingen provided a great background for our photos. It is in great shape for a house from the 15th century (1420).

Very interesting to see this very old house! Great example of German construction. You can see how the house is crooked already, well, after many years!
