Hiking, biking, golf course, and a model airplane airport, this park is huge considering it is a city park. Nature center, marked trails, geocaching are the numerous things to do here. Plenty of parking plus they have a campground for you to spend the night. They were getting ready for their Christmas light show which looks to be spectacular. Check... More

What a wonderful way to spend the day! The park is clean and offers nice walking trails around the freshwater lakes. Fishing and picnicking are always fun if you take the time to pack your basket, pole, and bait. If not, you can always spare a few dollars for a spin around the lake in a canoe, rowboat, or pedaling... More

I love having this amazing park in our backyard. Tons of acres of nature. There are numerous trails to walk, and some right next door at the campgrounds you can take horses and bicycles. There are plenty of picnic shelters to rent for parties, or to enjoy sitting for a picnic lunch. There are a few playgrounds for the kids.... More

We attended the Fall Folk Arts Festival this past weekend in this park. Really enjoyed walking some of the many trails in this park. Hope to return in the future. My daughter who recently moved to Newport News is already talking about attending the Christmas light show.

Newport News Park encompasses a nearly incredible 7,711 acre tract. That is just over twelve square miles of parkland, and if it can politely and decently be done outdoors, there is a place here to do it. In addition to hiking, jogging, picnicking, and the other activities to be enjoyed at your typical urban park, this one adds some oddities... More

I have frequented this park for couple reasons. One is family/friends picnic, other is children entertainment and walk (exercises) around the trails. If you love animal kingdom this a great place for watch turtles, dears, rabbits, and poison snakes!!!!! Good thing it is free.

A great place for some typical park life activities . It has all the amenities of your typical state park. Boating, hiking, fishing, and camping are probably the most exciting activities unless there is a scheduled event taking place. Based in the heart of a very historic area Newport News park is a nice get away to see some the... More

I have frequented this park for many events and activities, I have had many picnics, took archery class, used their camping areas,I love their holiday light show,it's very festive for the family. The park is absolutely beautiful,my children have always enjoyed renting boats and going out to enjoy the water.I have never been disappointed.

The park is littered with civil war fortifications - you can actually walk the trenches and dugouts that were erected during the Peninsula campaign of McClellan. It is the actual dugouts - not reenactments. Also overall its a nice park for picnics, hiking, etc.

One of the best city parks I have been to, very well laid out, large sites, close to many attractions. New reception center. The only draw back is it doesn't have sewage, must dump on way out.
