Nice park hidden away in plain site. Always plenty of parking. There are several trails that are approximately 1-3+ miles depending on how you connect them. Trails are clearly marked along the way. Forrested trails through out with plenty of shade. I believe there is one trail that's horse and bike friendly. Camp sites and a golf course are also available. Kayaking on the lake is also a great way to pass the time. Dog friendly and there are several historical points of interest on the trails. Highly recommend.

Spent a weekend at the campground with our Airstream club and participated in an outstanding tour conducted by Ranger Brooks. An awful lot of history within the park Civil War in bankments still visible. Ranger Brooks is a 20+ year veteran of the park and conducts outstanding excellent tours of the battle grounds. Kids cannot say enough about Ranger Brooks he even came over to the campground a day later and dropped off brochures to each of us they took his tour, customer service is alive and well.

We had to get out of the house for a while during this pandemic, so my partner decided to take me here. So peaceful and calming. Almost like we were in another country. Serene, spacious, and lots of different paths to take. If you need to escape for a bit, come here. They have pavilions, large and small, picnic areas with hibachi grills, games, just anything to make your day out something special.

Visited this park while staying in VA. over the past year and a half. Back this month and went to walk the park again and the same problem remains. The back area near the ball park is frequented by strange men who set in the cars an waite...After watching they seem to be waiting on other young boys or men. I was shocked at the activity that took place in the cars, on the trails and even saw men meeting men on the internet suggesting that area to meet. So beware of old, middle age strange men setting in trucks and cars. It's sad a park for all to enjoy has to be ridden with perverts and old gay men!

We love to come here for camping. We always try to stay at F172, which is secluded in the back and right on the water. We have tons to do on our weekends away including hiking, paddle boating, and biking. The facilities are great with showers and bathrooms. There are a lot of campers on summer weekends but everyone is so nice and friendly that you have a great time no matter what. We have no kids and enjoy ourselves just as well as families. We bring our dogs too and they always have a blast! The park rangers are great and always stop by to chat at night.

Group of us got together for a weekend of grateful dead music at the Hampton Coliseum. We spent one day wandering around this park enjoying it’s natural beauty as well as all the history. Highly recommended!

Great park to spend some time when you need to just get away and spend some time alone. Trails are paved and laid out very nicely around the park. The one thing that really caught my attention was the size of the tress. They were huge and offered considerable shade throughout the park. Being from Arizona, this was a special treat. During my walk I saw plenty of wild life; geese, squirrels, and many birds. A very pleasant way to spend an hour of my time just reflecting on the beauty of the area.

This free city park is a real gem for people who live here. It's shady and beautiful with a lot of trails to walk, lots of water, some boardwalks, and a golf course. Really nice park! Well done Newport News!

Extensive Nature Trails allow you to experience nature without a person or another sign of civilization in sight in places expecting the path. I love it!

This Park is really a jewel in Hampton Roads, lakes, paddle boating, canoes, RV Park, play ground, shelters , public bathrooms, walking and biking trails. There is a children festival and the Fall Festival first weekend in October Not to be missed. They have a visitors center which is at the entrance, no charge to get in or park, you should enjoy the nature and beauty of this huge park.
