Medieval curiosity
Feb 2020 • Couples
We stumbled across this by accident but had some time to kill so popped in as it looked interesting from the outside. Beer was good as it differed from the usual stuff that is always on tap in French bars. The medieval wine was intriguing and we sampled a few different flavours. I recommend the peach! Inside is decorated with all sorts of random stuff which makes it all the more interesting. You can obviously attend a themed evening here with dinner and dancing and it's a shame we didn't know about it beforehand!

Shop with a story
Aug 2019
The owner of the shop, saw a little hole, started digging and found a cellar, a prison cell, bones and lots of historical artefacts. We visited his shop on a rainy day and he was kind enough to show us around and tell the story on how he found the cellar and he told us about the history of the place, half in French, half in English. He is a great story teller, we had a fantastic time and although we only speak a little bit of French, in half English/half French we could follow the story. This was for sure the highlight of our trip to France

Must do if you are visiting Senlis or surrounding area
Jul 2019
I knew going into the tour their would be a language barrier due to the fact that I speak no French and Mr Thomas speaks a little bit of English. Regardless our family had an amazing time learning the secrets of what was discovered by him. He kept us entertained from the minute we arrived to the minute we left. He made my whole family feel involved in everything he spoke about and shared! Great way to start a trip and get a feel for Senlis!! Thanks again, Doug!!!

Interesting - but you need to speak French, or have a fluent translator
Aug 2018 • Family
This is an interesting place and the owner is very patient and is apologetic that although he speaks some English, not enough to do an explanation of his finds.

Unfortunately, it meant myself and my kids (12-14) were very soon lost in the talk so missed pretty much everything that was said. My wife speaks excellent French so was able to follow, however in trying to translate - she would then lose what was being said and also trying to whisper to the rest of us while the owner carried on - meant the explanations were few and far between.

From the reviews here, I missed the fact that you really need to speak French, or have someone good at translating while listening, which are glossed over, other clues missed are the website - entirely in French.

However - Given 4 stars as not the owers fault for my lacking of speaking French in France and my wife did enjoy it.

Fascinating
Apr 2018 • Family
Mr. Thomas and his wife were extremely friendly to my 5 grandchildren and myself by opening Le Cachot especially for us.
The way Mr. Thomas explains his discovery is fascinating and all my grandchildren (from 10 to 18) were suspended to his lips 2 hours long.
This place is full of history and passion.
A good way to start your visit of Senlis because you better will understand the city after having listen to the presentation of Mr. Thomas.
A place to go.
Moreover, the shop is not very expensive, very eclectic and one can buy some original and unique stuff.
Go and enjoy!

History comes alive!
Sep 2017 • Couples
In this interesting and eclectic shop tucked away in a fascinating historical French town, the owner was fixing up the basement of his store over a period of several years.
He made some fascinating discoveries and he tells you the story during the tour.
He speaks simply and slowly and if you have a basic knowledge of French you can follow him - if not there are almost always bilingual tourists with you who translate as he speaks.
If you want an unusual and long to be remembered experience, stop by Le Cachot!

A Hidden Jewel in Senlis
Aug 2017 • Family
Le Cachot is a wonderful cafe/boutique that serves several medieval and artisan drinks, alongside selling historical items of interest, but the main attraction is the guided tour of the basement with several excellent historical findings. I won't spoil the surprise, but if you are in the area, it is well worth a visit. We found this place entirely by accident walking through the town centre, but it was the most interesting place in Senlis.

The owner was delightful, and very keen to share his knowledge of local medieval history. Between his English and my French, we managed to converse well, and he was a generous, keen host.

My wife, my 8 year old son and I had a great time.

Do not miss a great travel back in time!
Nov 2016
If there is one thing you need to see in Senlis, it is this shop! It is so much more than a shop: it is a great visit back in time when the owner tells you everything about the discoveries he made when he came by the ownership of his quaint boutique. Don't hesitate one second: ask for a guided tour, grab your beer/cider/warm beverage, buckled up and enjoy!

Senlis' has hidden depths
Jun 2016 • Family
The Cachot of Senlis is a small part of the attraction of Senlis and considering the cost, one not to be missed. Despite needing to rely upon our friend to translate, the host' infectious enthusiasm made the setting and tale most entertaining. I won't spoil it by giving away any of the mysteries which his telling unfolds, suffice to say the time was well spent and the company very pleasant. The shop is a marvel in itself, the collection of artifacts more than reasonably priced and very well displayed. The hidden gem down below is a must and I wouldn't hesitate in paying it another visit.

Fantastic discovery!
Jul 2016 • Couples
We came here with another couple since my boyfriend and I just moved into the area. It was a great intro into what the village of Senlis has to offer. You do need to speak French though, or have someone who can translate. I was mesmerized by the discoveries of this guy and it made me more interested in the history!
