perfect one day trip
Aug 2020
choose a sunny day to walk on a low tide towards the island. You will discover a poetical salt marshes and stunning views over the coast. The fort and the museum are interesting for the title ones and for the grownups.

Probably a bit late in the season (September) to appreciate fully.

Visited on a blustery day in mid September. The flora not at their best as late in the season - our mistake. Nevertheless, worth a visit if you are a keen gardener. Boat trip was enjoyable.

Superb day spent by our cycling group on Tatihou
Jun 2019
We booked in advance by phone and were very pleasantly surprised by the level of trust, with no payment being required prior to the day of lour visit. Tatihou is an absolutely fascinating island with marine, horticultural, historical and wildlife aspects very sympathetically interwoven. The museum itself is fascinating. The non Francophone members of the group found it easy to explore the treasures of this destination. We sere advised to take a pic-nic and the lack of food outlets on the island itself was a blessing! The oyster beds, visible from the amphibious craft were a revelation.

Beautiful visit

Excellent day which started with a ride on the amphibious boat. Advisable to get tickets ahead so no need to queue esp on weekends or popular dates.
The fortress is impressive and when you reach the top the sight is beautiful esp with the seagulls and their babies.
The walk in the gardens was excellent. Wish however that they had the names for all the different plants and trees.

Nice Site but not very developed

We went on a visit arranged by our club. We were a party of 47 people.

We had lunch on the Island, but PLEASE NOTE that if you wish to eat (or drink!!) ANYTHING you need to book in advance.

There is a museum with displays on the topic of boats and general marine subjects. There are English translations of the French displays, written below the French.

Access is either on foot (at low tide!!!) or by a boat/bus affair that leaves from one spot on the mainland at low tide and another about a 500m away at high tide... so best go to the ticket office before travelling to find out where to board.

There are gardens and a fortified tower and it is a lovely spot, but for us everything seemed a bit tired and neglected, and the lack of any sort of access to drinks was a big minus.

Nice to see if you have some leisure time. For the tourist, see it if you're near the area.

We took the duck to the island and walked around to the main sights. If you're in the area and want some interesting sights, it's nice to visit. Don't go far out of your way to see it, though. Not for American tourists.

Hmhm ... could be better.

The island itself is great but the touristic charme is low ... cars driving around all the time and you do not know what to do there but looking at the sea.

Simply stunning

The best way to get to the Ile Tatihou is by the boat/bus hybrid vehicle. We went in the morning, when the tide was high, by it as a boat. We were a party of five adults and three infants of 6 and 7.

The island is small but the walk to the restaurant was about half an hour. The children played in the fortifications of the Vauban Fort and we had a good meal outside the distinguished house where, presumably, the governor lived.

The meal was good and we when walked around the fort and had a delightful time visiting another fort off shore which could be reached at low tide.

On our was back we stopped at the botanic gardens and had a look round. As the tide was low we returned to the mainland on foot through the extensive oyster beds.

A great day out in good weather

very interesting

We have visited St Vaast many times always by sea but have never taken the duck to Tatihou. This time was different.
The museum exhibit was very well done in French and English and very interesting. The tower, gardens and foreshore provide lots of interest for a half day trip
