This was our first stop on our day-trip out to see the D-Day memorials and sights, and it was a fine introduction to what we were going to see later that day. The engineering expertise and planning that went into ensuring the supply lines to support the Allied trips in their invasion of Europe often gets overlooked, but without it, the divisions and armies that liberated the continent wouldn't have gotten far. There are several other memorials on this bluff, all worth exploring, and the views are incredible, even more so when you consider what this area must have been like 75 years ago. Memorial Royal Engineers is a memorial dedicated to engineers, who helped in the disembarkation of the Britain Army in the 2nd World War, in Arremanches-sur-Mer and surroundings, in the coast of Normandy, in the North of France. It is located in the surroundings of the city, where you can see some object used in this moment like tanks. Also, from here, you can see beautiful views of the cliffs, which are near the town. Nice. My son in law was a Sapper and it’s easy to forget just how much the success of the landings depended on the Royal Engineers getting the temporary harbours in place, completing bridging work, track laying, carrying out bomb disposal work and generally supporting the invasion before, during and afterwards. 87,000 RE personnel had landed on mainland Europe before the end of 1944 and over 6,000 officers and men had been killed between D Day and end of the war. The memorial is prominently situated on the hill above Arromanches and is a fitting tribute.…
