It was well worth driving here from Shenandoah for the morning. This was a rare late victory for the South in the Shenandoah valley on 5-15-64. It has been romanticized because some VMI cadets fought here. General Sigel was coming down to Stuanton and General Breckinridge kicked his butt here. This screwed up Grant's chance to have troops come in... More

For $12 per adult I great find! I loved the way this man interjected his personal information at the end of the displays. Also offers a great selection of items for purchase.

We thought we were entering the Virginia Museum of the Civil War - they are both very close to each other but neither mentions that fact! so we missed the museum and only noticed our mistake after leaving New Market - so we headed to the museum on our return trip home. Still this was an incredible military museum of... More

I wasn't sure what to expect when I first entered, but this is an amazing place. You go from case to case, exhibit to exhibit and there are little gems of history tucked away in every one. Military items to be sure, but the little day to day things are in there as well. I suspect that each time you... More

The museum is good enough, but combine it with the walking tour and it is very sobering - what these soldiers went through.

This place has the most extensive collection of military weaponry and photographs of any we have ever visited. We highly recommend it!

Disappointed to say the least. We were charged full price and 75%of the museum was "missing". They said they were currently making improvements and I understand sometimes this needs to happen, but while you have more than half of your displays removed you should not charge full price to enter. The farm house and barns were also closed for "repairs"... More

As you enter the area the signs says buy your tickets here leading you to believe these are tickets for the battlefield and REAL museum. When we entered my wife asked about the battlefield and the person working said you are on the battlefield. While this may be true, the real tour begins after you leave here. We paid to... More

Young children are likely to get bored at this museum. Everything is inside glass displays with TONS of reading. Picture after picture of Civil War era.

Visiting the New Market Battlefield and Museum was a very well-done educational experience. Although the battlefield is rather small, it is easy to walk. The museum is very nice with some wonderful exhibits. The staff couldn't be more helpful. It is worth the time and money to spend some time here.
