Overview
More
Marqueyssac is one of the most beautiful romantic gardens of France and today the most visited garden in Perigord. Listed as a national historical monument thanks to its 54 acres park, Marqueyssac's gardens offer more than 6 kilometres of shaded paths in a maze of 150 000 hand-pruned boxwoods. From the belvedere, at 130 meters above the Dordogne river, you will see the most spectacular panorama in Perigord. This is the testimony of a rich bygone history and a gorgeous natural heritage. It's also an exceptionnal Dordogne valley point of view, you will see its most beautiful villages : Domme, Castelnaud, Beynac, Fayrac, La Roque-Gageac and its castles.

These gardens are very beautiful, with mind blowing views all around, overlooking villages, the river, fields and castles! There are a few ways to walk the gardens and lots of places to explore, the box hedges are wonderful! There are play areas for children and...More

Les Jardins de Marqueyssac offer incredible views over the whole valley. You have the opportunity to walk in the gardens, along different paths each with its own atmosphere. The paths (mainly composed of boxwood shrubs) are organised into three circuits that lead to the Belvedere...More

Take the visit of the Wednesday evening. Come at 7 pm, start with the visit of the gardens during daylight. Then when the night comes, walk along the alleys lighted with 2000 candles, with spots in the trees, discovering an orchestra hidden in a section...More

Went with 6 adults and 7 children aged 2-15yo. Hard work at the beginning with a pushchair as quite steep but once you are at the chateau level it is fairly flat. Lovely wooden play area halfway along the walk and netting in the trees...More

Visited this chateau several times for Thursday evening candle lit spectacular. Last night it was heaving and not at all easy to move about. Distinct impression that visitors were packed in to make money. Will not be returning. Incidentally, the admission price of 14.50 Euros...More

So happy we did not miss this site. The gardens are beautiful and the walk to the top is pleasant, although it may be challenging for some. The path is flat, but fairly long. The views at the top are breathtaking. We were there on...More

The Gardens of Marquessac are estraordinary to say the least; greated by undulating 'waves' of clipped box, the gardens extend across the plateau from the Chateau, terminating at an erie overlooking the river. During the summer holidays in August, an extraordinary music spectacle is organised...More

Beautiful gardens and a great walk overlooking the dordogne valley. A lot better than we were expecting having been rather disappointed by the bamboo gardens at la roque. Three teenagers (15,17 and 19) had a go on the free rock climbing across the cliff edge...More

The Thursday evening floodlit experience was terrific for the grandkids. Free entry to under tens, both had free face painting on their way in, loved the freedom to romp within the extensive grounds and , before the light went, really enjoyed the adventure playground at...More

We visited the gardens with an 8 and 10 year old and I have to say I was nervous that they would be bored; however, I trusted the other reviews that said kids seem to enjoy their visit and took the plunge. We visited early...More

As I recall there is no extra charge for the tour - It is included in the entrance fee. Tours in French were every hour but tours in English twice a day (morning and afternoon)
