Tribute to WWII Canadian soldiers
Sep 2019 • Couples
A huge thank you to Gilbert Van Landschoot, for his tribute to the sacrifices of Canadian soldiers in the Second World War.

It's a time capsule to WWII
Apr 2019 • Couples
For families looking for a visit to the past, in remembrance of world war II and all brave soldiers from Canada and Poland who gave their life for freedom, then this place is a must-visit. Easy parking, friendly staff.

fantastic museum, wonderful and interesting exhibits.

the most interesting part is that the items exhibited come from the homes of the locals living nearby! Our father fought in WW2 and visited his relatives close by in Knesselaere during the war. He told us that when the locals asked him what they could give him, he said "please just some dry clothes". No wonder they were able to find the clothing and supplies of the Canadian soldiers from the locals for the museum. This was the dream and mission of one man who on his deathbed asked his son to carry out the work of building this museum.

Expensive eats
Jul 2018 • Friends
Nice place, but sadly food prices are expensive for what you get.
13 Euro for 2 small toasties with a little salad and 2.5 Euros for a small cola. Staff not very friendly. Such a shame as could be so much better

Very impressive

This museum is born to celebrate the effort given by the Polish and Canadian soldiers that fought during the Second Wold War together with the Allied Forces. Big polish units were attached to the British Forces since the D-day, and one of their battle sectors was along the Flemish coast. The collection is private and is completely self-financed. The two floors expose many personal weapons, uniforms, equipment, documents. There are 1/1 dioramas representing battle situations with accurate details. There are some battle dioramas 1/32 as well (D-day landings, Battle of the Bulge), those are sometimes a bit fantastic but the general effect is impressive. Pictures are not allowed inside. There is the possibility to book a guided tour of the gardens close to the Museum. The gardens are beautiful but I did not completely appreciate the visit because the guide spoke only Flemish.

An amazing hidden gem.

This museum is a real find. It seems to be little known among the professional guides but we were directed here by our Canadian travel agent and we were glad we found it. A private collection of Second World War paraphernalia presented in realaistic and detailed dioramas using manaquins and miniature models. As well there are numerous video and photo presentations with narration in English. It is not the most high tech museum nor is the curation always slick, but that is part of its charm. There is a real personal touch here. The family that created the museum and runs it today are deeply committed and have personal connections to the war and to honouring those Canadians and Poles, who helped to defend this part of Belgium. Well worth a visit!

Well done

This is a small, privately run museum in Maldegem. It feels like the exhibits are a collector's hobby but they are still well laid out and informative. Don't miss the miniature world upstairs--WWII battles are laid out in miniature form. There is also a tea house onsite that offers light snacks and drinks. If you are in the area, it is worth a visit.

Canadians Visit Europe in 2015
Oct 2016 • Friends
We visited the museum in 2015 from Langley, B.C., Canada. It was an awesome experience and the hospitality shown us was something we'll never forget. Gilbert dropped in as we were leaving and talked with us and thanked us for coming. His daughter, whom we met at the museum, made our group of Canadians feel very much at home. Anyone I know that is planning a trip I always tell them to make a visit to the museum. They won't be disappointed.
Cheers from Canada

Well worth the trip!

This is an outstanding museum, which covers the story of WWII, and in particular, the contribution of the Canadians, who fought and died in the area. The dioramas all illustrate aspects of the army operations, and are pristine (nothing looks old or rusty or dusty here!). Numerous short videos shot at the time make the events seem very real. It brings an immediacy to the war, makes it feel like it happened yesterday, and right here. One of the best war museums I've ever seen.

The tea room and bar are also excellent. The people working there were very pleasant. (I didn't visit the gardens).

Highly recommended.
