Close to Central Park

Nice church with a pretty cool museum connected to it off to the left. Pretty simple inside and out but worth checking out. Free entry

Nice
Jan 2020
It’s only a block away from the central park. Easy to access but it’s a bit hidden.
Roads around are very crowded.

A Quiet Small Cathedral
Dec 2019
Unusually this cathedral is quite and small with not much activity during our visit;not what one would expect. Entrance is free.

One of the Oldest Church in Central America
Dec 2019
The facade is interesting not too overly ornate. We came right before sunset and got great photos. This church is not too far from the main plaza and worth a quick stop.

Stone Statues Are Impressive
Mar 2019 • Couples
This was included on our cruise ship tour. It is a nicely restored building with a beautiful courtyard. The museum is not large, but well displayed. I especially liked the room with more than a dozen ancient large stone statues.

Beautifully restored
Mar 2019 • Couples
We were there with a tour from our cruise ship. We were there for a very short time, but were impressed by how well they have restored and maintained the place.

Nice museum
Oct 2018
The Convento y Museo San Francisco was once a church and a convent. Our tour bus guide ushered us inside and directed us to the nice restrooms as a first stop. The tour guide also served as our guide for the museum. There is a lovely courtyard, colorful paintings, rooms with religious art, a room with a large map and recovered pottery from pre-colonial times. Our guide explained the mock-up of a Maya pole performance. The highlight for us was the large collection of stone statues of volcanic basalt, most of which were discovered on Isla Zapatera in the early 1880's. The statues date to around 800 to 1200 AD. This exhibit is in an open-air wing of the museum with lovely views of the Mombacho Volcano and the city.

another fabulous church
Mar 2018 • Business
The Convento y Museo San Francisco (monastery and church) is a stop you should not miss on a walking tour of Granada. It was built to colonize and "Christianize" the people of Nicaragua when the Spanish imposed themselves on the country. The original church was made of thatch and burned in the 1500s. The city has burned three times in its history - look it up for some interesting reading. In 1661, pirates in search of treasure burned it again! The third version is what currently stands.

Beautiful Cathedral
Aug 2017 • Family
Beautiful Cathedral in the main City center and it was only half a block from our hotel. It is a beautiful but central American typical Cathedral. Since this is right at the city center you will see lots of shops, food stalls and hundreds people walking and sitting around. Very safe and inviting area.

Interesting

There is a museum with a collection of primitive art from Nicaragua
with is great to see because Nicaragua has the best primitive or naive art in the world and the collection is quite nice .
We got inspired and bought our own great piece of Art at the local Gallery down by the cathedral from the Canadian Lady afterwards :)
The stones from the ancient native tribes are great to see in the outside exhibition.
