Our travels brought us to the historical temple, which has provided us with a better understanding of the cultural history. India is represented as a female Goddess, also know as Mother India, where she is worshipped here. The temple is eight stories high, with an statute of Mother India inside the temple. Photographs of other well known men and women of India adorn the walls on different levels of the temple.

We opted to visit this place during this summer holidays the weather is nice. This temple belongs to the Lord Hrishikesh Narayan not Lord Rama actually. Maybe that is the reason that this place is called Rishikesh. It is a good place for devotees and calm and serene for meditation purposes.

Bharat Mandir is an ancient Hindu temple that was mentioned in the Mahabharata. The temple is dedicated to Vishnu and the main idol is of Vishnu carved out of a single piece of Saligram. To be honest the temple didn’t seem that special to me, but I guess you have to be a devotee to really appreciate it.

I was deeply intrigued to know that Bharat Mandir is dedicated to Lord Hrishikesh Narayan, an incarnation of Lord Vishnu (and not related to Bharat of Ramayana or Bharat as in India); the town of Rishikesh gets its identity from the deity of this temple. Must visit for every Rishikesh lover.

Initially I thought this temple was of Bharat - the brother of Lord Rama but realised I was wrong! This centuries old shrine is the place on which the town of Rishikesh gets its name and is the temple of Lord Hrishikesh Narayan who is also known is Bharat Bhagwan here. First temple of Rishikesh and a must visit in every itinerary.

Beautifully maintained temple, by Ganges is really amazing. Serious large hall, open architecture and artistic stonework. A small museum on front provides connection to its oldness. When you see it, difficult to believe that it can be 1200 years old.
