I went to see this during an overnight trip to Baotou while vacationing in Hohhot. Other than the rock sign saying what the place was, and the Mongol on a horse on a hill, there was nothing indicating exactly what spot was the ruins of the wall. So, I'm not sure what it was I was supposed to see.

This makes for a convenient and worthwhile - but hardly breathtaking - break on the road from Baotou to Wudangzhao Monastery. The mud-brick wall is scarcely recognisable now, rising no more than perhaps 6 feet above the surrounding terrain. It is nevertheless an impressive achievement - but there is little to see today. The road that cuts through it is busy with trucks, so there is no real sense of solitude here.

The statue is impressive!

Considering the ruin of the Great Wall makes one consider the politics surrounding it, and of its renovations and maintenance in other locations. If you're out this way, it's a good stop, but probably not worth the trip unless you are a scientist or historian. It was equally intriguing to see the wall at nearby sites, where it was little more than a crumbled strip of gravel and chips running off into the distances at about 1 foot high by 4 feet wide.
