Yes you must see this and pay your respects to one of this nation's founding fathers. It's part of the Mount Vernon grounds pass. The guides are informative. It's not to be missed. But in the end, it is indeed only a grave. A special place certainly. But still a grave.

The final resting place was George and Martha Washington and many of their family members. This was the second location for the tombs, as it was moved from a different location at Mount Vernon.

It’s George’s grave and he deserves respect and thanks for all he did for our country but as attractions go let’s be honest - it’s his final resting place nothing more.

That’s in no way intended to show any disrespect. I enjoyed the opportunity to pay my respects but it’s nothing more than that. If you visit mt Vernon and respect the man you’ll enjoy the walk down the hill to the crypt.

The monument has the remains of Mr and Mrs Washington. Quiet somber moment remembering the life of our first president.

We didn't know this National Monument existed until we toured Mount Vernon. Lovely, shady, peaceful place of rest for the First President and his wife. Goosebumps. A must see if you are in the area.

The tomb of General Washington and his wife is a classy, restrained resting place. Behind the main area is a family vault holding 25 of Washington's relatives. As with so many things, the general had the foresight to define the tomb that he wanted built.

This tomb was built after his death and his body was moved there.

Visitors remain quiet to pay tribute to their founding father

Was here for the tour and came to the burial site of our first President and his wife. Made it right in time for the wreath celebration! Very cool, as they choose veterans active or retired followed by scouts to come up for the ceremony to present the content. Also has what may or may not be tombs of other close relatives. Check it out if you take the tour.

George Washington was born further south in Virginia. Mount Vernon may have been his parents' 3rd or 4th residence. I would highly suggest to attend the wreath laying ceremony which, to my understanding, occurs every day at 12 noon. It is very solemn and a special way to pay homage to the founder of our country and his wife. It includes the Pledge of Allegiance, the wreath laying inside the vault, and the recitation of a short text, written by George Washington on June 8, 1783. It was a message addressed to the governors of the Union. I had a beautiful, meaningful time there. A ceremony not to be missed when you visit Mount Vernon

General Washington, Mrs. Washington and family members have been laid to rest in the tomb, a short walk from the mansion. It is quite a simple burial ground for the first president of the United States.
