I've been here twice. The first time I had a couple of hours en route to the airport and just toured the home. Second time, we spent the day and went everywhere on the property. The staff and craftspeople are wonderful and dedicated to educating...More

We got there first thing in the morning. The mansion is about a 5 minute walk from the gate and visitor center. Tour takes about an hour. You can take pictures of the grounds and outlying buildings but not the inside rooms in the main...More

Give some time to history this holiday season. This is a relaxing place on the Potomac to spend any day. Tours are available, or self guided leisurely walking. History is all around you, just as is the wonderful aroma of the dogwood trees!

We went on the hottest November day since records began, 81degrees. I do not know how Washington did anything with a view from his veranda overlooking the Potomac that was stunning. We used the audio tour that was a little complex since there were 4...More

This was our second time doing the candlelight tour. We love it. Advice #1: make sure you tour this before during the daytime. Don't be first time visitor during the candlelight tour. It's dark inside and you will not be able to see inside the...More

This, by far, was the best place we visited on our two-week trip to Virginia and DC area. There is a boat tour that takes you to Mount Vernon but we opted to drive so we wouldn't feel rushed to leave. We visited the burial...More

Standing only feet away from the remains of our first President, preserved in the family tomb, was truly a humbling experience. Clearly, absent the leadership and genius of George Washington, America as we know it today would not exist. The entire privately-owned estate is well-maintained...More

Go early to beat the crowds! Nice just walking the grounds, but the house tour was very interesting, the audio tour was worth the money.
