We arrived and saw 6 buses and 3 school buses and thought we will never get in here. We were very surprised because we were given a time to tour the home and it was a small group. The rest of the grounds you can tour at your own pace and it is beautiful. There are some moderate hills. The... More

George Washington's home....Mt. Vernon. Really worth your visit. They have done an exceptional job preserving and restoring the manor and the grounds. We took public transportation out and back and it was easy as the bus drops you off right in front of the entrance. You are greeted by a large gift shop and a restaurant. We purchased tickets on... Went to Mt. Vernon on Veteran's Day on a getaway trip to DC. It was a beautiful Fall day...great for pictures and walking around. We got tickets at a tourist information center in Alexandria (10 mins away, doing that got us a deal on sites to visit there). You can also get them online. Parking at Mt. Vernon is fine,... More

A beautiful historic property with so much that has been renovated to near perfection. Lots of activities throughout the year to add to the fabric of Mt. Vernon.

My wife and I went with our two year old and two week old. The animals on the estate were the two year old's favorite! The mansion is amazing and the tour was good, although a little rushed. We also attended the ceremony at the General's tomb, which was somber but very nice. Beware buying drinks or food at the... More

We visited in Fall and the road to Mt Vernon was a picture . The homestead and the grounds are outstanding. All made possible by private donations and support. the farm lands and layout of the gardens are beautiful .Of special interest are the Slave Quarters

Mount Vernon is a nice place to check out in the Virginia Area. We had no lines to see The main house where George Washington Lived but it was under construction on the outside when we went. Nice gardens and large areas to walk around and enjoy the scenery. They had a few farm animals to see as well. I... More

My wife and I took the private tour at a cost of $300. The guide was very knowledgable although I thought a disproportionate emphasis was placed on GW's slaves rather than his treachery against the Mother Country (I'm British). The private tour enabled us to jump the lines and visit the third floor of the house - there was nothing... More

While chaperoning a school sponsored trip to Washington DC we took the group of 120 middle schoolers to this spot. A trip highlight! Mt Vernon staff was knowledgeable and efficient. The tour of the house is a must and lines were long. I recommend seeing it first if you are limited on time. It's well worth the walk to the... More

We had a fantastic day visiting George Washington's Mount Vernon. We made our way there by boat and spent a fascinating 4 hours back in time. We started with the Mansion house which was wonderful and then walked around the whole estate, eating a hot dog along the way. Definitely worth a visit.
