Closed for Renovations/new Management
Aug 2018 • Family
We stumbled across this one day and thought it would be fun. Went the next day and unfortunately found that it was closed for renovations. We had read on line that it was the oldest around and the Duck Bowling sounded like fun. We will try to stop by if we are ever in the Mt Jackson area again.

While traveling 1200 miles, the kids and parents needed a break from the rv - found this place by accident and it was great. Such nice people and the retro duckpin bowling was fun for all!!!

Shenandoah Bowling Lanes is one of the oldest bowling alleys still operating in the Commonwealth -- and, even rarer, a duckpin bowling alley at that.

It still has the well-maintained original equipment from back in the 40's when it was established -- so no automatic scoring for you! No worries, though -- the staff is more than happy to help you do the arithmetic on the overhead-projector scoring sheets if you're unsure of how to go on.

This is a hidden jewel of a place: my husband and I enjoyed three games (well, given our scores, enjoyed might be a stretch :*}) and were out the door, including shoe rental, for about $25. Mind you, we'd eaten dinner before we went, and they have a nicely-stocked concession stand, as well as a billiards table for those who wish not to bowl.

The only drawback to the location is that it's on the second floor of a storefront in downtown Mount Jackson. In other words: no elevator for the mobility impaired. Let's hope that the current owners raise the profile of the place so that might be an option in the future.

Having said that: if you're anywhere near, check it out!
