About
We are open but operating differently. Visit our website for changes due to COVID-19. As the oldest commercial vineyard and winery at Smith Mountain Lake, a visit to Hickory Hill Vineyards is a must. The Furrows first planted vines in 1984 and after years of vineyard experience, they opened the winery 2001. With that first commercial vintage, Hickory Hill wines began earning medals of excellence in international wine competitions with over 80 to date. A visit to Hickory Hill can include a tasting of their popular "Lake series" of blended wines made in a lighter, more fruit forward style. For those preferring more traditional, drier wines, you will not want to miss the vintage, estate grown, award winning Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon. A local award winning Cabernet Franc round out the wine list. In 2005 The Furrows started the summer music series Sunset Saturday. This music series features local singer/songwriters many Saturday evenings from May to September.

Wine Tasting in a Bag! EXCELLENT!!!

We spent a delightful afternoon seated at a picnic table under a tree sampling some absolutely OUTSTANDING wines! Some were so good, we're bringing several bottles home.

Setting a scenery are perfect for such an endeavor. Very relaxing and, with just enough to taste and form an opinion, we departed promising to return.

You will enjoy the experience! Have fun!

Relaxing atmosphere to enjoy wine
Oct 2020
The owners were very welcoming and the wine was delicious! We arrived on a beautiful, sunny day and were able to sit out at a picnic table under a tree. The wine tasting "in a bag" due to COVID restrictions was well done and we had the opportunity to sample 9 wines! We settled on the SML sunset (a sweet blend of Chardonnay and Vidal with no oak) and took a bottle of the SML Mist to go (semi-dry stainless steel Vidal Blanc blend). Just enjoyed the Mist with my sister in law this past weekend. She loved it!

A perfect day!
Jul 2020
A perfect day! An easy drive on the way to Smith Mountain Lake state park. The winery has lots of picnic tables in the shade. We tried a flight which is a one ounce pour of each of their wines. You can sit and look out over the property and the vines. We brought home a bottle of mist that was our favorite.

We enjoyed the generous tasting, brought a picnic for one of their shady picnic tables enjoying a bottle we purchased and later played corn hole!

We visited here as part of a family birthday celebration. This is definitely worth your time if you are visiting the area. The setting is lovely and the wine tasting is informative and fun. In addition to the surprisingly good wines they have lots of wine related items that are perfect for gifts (for yourself or someone else). I would love to go back in the fall and get one of their picnic lunches.

Girls Weekend

TripAdvisor did it again!! This was our first winery stop on our first day on Girls Weekend & it was the BEST! We loved the tasting room and the tasting room staff was fantastic. We never felt rushed and had great conversation with the owner. It was a beautiful winery and laid back atmosphere. The wines were also wonderful!

Small, rustic setting in the Smith Mountain Lake region. Compared to most other wineries I have visited, I felt I got to try more wines and larger portions of each, and all of them were very good. I especially enjoyed the blended, fruit wines on a hot summer day. I came at a non-busy time and had nice conversation with the tasting room staff, which also happened to be the owners/operators of the vineyard, as like most wineries in Virginia, it is family owned and operated. Stopping here and then next door at Ramulose Ridge was a great choice for my visit to the area.
