WE had both sets of flights offered and didn't really love any of them- a bit to peppery for me, but the place is really pretty. The help were really nice.

Very disappointing - rude staff (the manager!), no service offered but an expectation that we would pay a 18% service charge. Ridiculous. To me a wine tasting is someone telling you about the wine, not handing you four plastic cups which you need to awkwardly carry somewhere else.

My husband and I visited on a pretty Sunday afternoon in February. We liked that the driveway and parking lot are paved unlike many other wineries in the area. Note that parking is on the opposite side of building from the entrance. The indoor tasting area is quite small, accommodating 14-15 people at a circular bar. (I did feel sorry for the servers as they had to duck under the bar top to go in and out - no hinge? Clean-up was especially challenging when one of them knocked over a bottle of wine.) The staff were all very pleasant and our tasting was great. We enjoyed the reds over the white and rose (definite minerality to them). The tasting room also has glass viewing areas into the barrel room and bottling room. There is seating in the vat room as well. I would recommend a stop especially during warmer weather so that you can sit at one of the picnic tables on the gravel patio and admire the vineyard. They allow outside food which is a nice option. Cheers!

There's nothing I like better than sipping wine on a chill afternoon. Let me rephrase. I like nothing better than sipping good wine on a chill afternoon. The Boxwood Winery is a perfect place for that. First, the place looks like the owner took a French chateau and transported it to the Virginia countryside. To complement the the place, the owner even planted the traditional Bordeaux grapes so the Winery could make Bordeaux wines. This might be seen like a bit of an over-reach, given the different climates between Middleburg and Bordeaux. But, Boxwood seamlessly pulls it off. While the Winery prides itself on its red wines, which are amazing, its one white wine, a Sauvignon Blanc, shines brightest. After our tasting, we stayed around and drank a full glass of it. Also, a big "shout out" to our wine steward, Mark. He was very knowledgeable and personable. I only plan to return if he is working that day.
