Wow! Unbelievable! Fantastic! Just a few words that describe the exhibits and information available at the Virginia Museum of Natural History! The museum hasn't always been a museum or open to the public. It started as a private institution that became an agency of the state, then became an accredited museum! Now VMNH is affiliated with the Smithsonian Institution! The... More

A great museum of exhibits from the beginning of time on earth. Museum features dinosaur casts of full size skeletons. This museum uncovers Virginia Natural History and has an actual paleontology and archaeology laboratory. Also a section on How Nature Works along with a variety of taxidermy mammals and insects.

We took a quick day trip to Martinsville to visit the museum. We hadn't been before and the kids were very interested in the educational and informational exhibits. From dinosaurs to early settlements in Virginia, we spent a couple hours wandering through. The museum itself is a beautiful and modern structure. The live animal exhibit is very small with just... A comfortable venue with a wide range of exhibits to appeal to a broad audience. As a senior, the $3 admission is a bargain. Reasonable for a family outing. From fossils, rocks and skeletons to hands on exhibits, this is an educational experience worth a visit. The museum is active with programs especially young students. Great asset to the community.

Tucked away in the town of Martinsville you will find this gem! A must see! Easy access from Rt 220 if going between Greensboro and Roanoke. An easy drive and a perfect trip for those interested in dinosaurs. A nice gift shop but wish they had more sizes available. Also a great venue for weddings or special events.

We visit frequently to see what's new. There is a lot to learn here and it is fun to see. There are many hands-on activities to keep kids interested and a play room with a multi-level pirate ship play area to burn off excess energy if kids get antsy after a while.

I took my 3 year old grandson, he loved it! They have the dinosaurs on display but also have other animals, fish and birds mounted showing them in a natural habitat. They have a pirate ship which my young grandson didn't want to leave. The gift shop has all kinds of goodies too.

We had a great time at this museum for the size of the city. The museum was not crowded at all on a hot Saturday in July. The dinosaur fossils were the favorite part of the museum. We didn't have to pay for parking and if you need to go back to the car its not a far walk at... More
