We enjoyed a 10 mile walk along this well maintained and scenic trail on a beautiful Spring week day. We found plenty of parking available in the 10th Street lot along the river. From there we headed north and west along what is listed as the James River Heritage Trail for almost 3 miles to the end at Park Avenue just past the Kemper Street train station. From there we retraced our steps past our parked car, crossed the river through Percival's Island Nature Preserve, and u-turned back to the car. Trail conditions and signage were excellent.

Lovely morning walk -- recommend parking on Jefferson Street near Percival's island and walking along the island part of the trail. Good shade, views of the water, wildlife. Other parts of the trail are not as scenic imo but equally nice. Didn't include photo of the large black snake ;)

We rented bikes and spent several hours riding the trails. Beautiful scenery. Great upkeep, we didn't see any trash. Biking through the lit tunnel was especially fun. We were there on a Thursday morning so it wasn't crowded but I imagine it is packed on the weekends.

I wonder if we missed something here. The bridge to the island was closed so never got to go over there but did walk beside the river on the city side of the river, up the gravel path. You really can't even see the river because of all the trees.

Love this trail. Every time I come home to Lynchburg I spend every day walking 5-10 miles of the trail. Just wanted to say well done on the addition from Linkhorne Middle school to Ed Page. Lovely stretch and nice addition and great parking at LMS on weekends!

My husband and I did a 5K on this Riverwalk! We LOVED it. Loved going through the tunnel. It was a very easy walk. Loved when the trains came by as well. Make sure to see the LOVE sign and have your picture taken there. GREAT walk place! Thank you Lynchburg for making this available!

We had fun, walking down the gravel path, took pictures in front of the LOVE sign & crossed the bridge. The path after the bridge was shaded. Interesting all the Locks on the fences. The idea is simple: a couple crosses the bridge and puts a padlock on a section of the chain link fence. Legend is, The lock represents their love, and it will stay there for all of eternity. They then dramatically hurl the keys to the lock into the body of water under the bridge. They make out a bit. How romantic!

We happened upon this trail while stopping over in Lynchburg, and it was a real delight. It was easy access from our wonderful hotel--The Craddock Terry, or from any other downtown location. There are many interesting things to see--an active railway system, city's "LOVE" sculpture, old railway bridge to Percival Island, and the James River. We were with our 2 kids, and they thoroughly enjoyed the trains, river scenes, and the shady walk on the Island. It was just what we needed after driving in the car for a few hours. What an asset to their interesting, beautiful city!

The Riverwalk trail system goes about 8 miles from downtown Lynchburg, Virginia. Most of the trail is paved, and there are many side trails. Whether you are walking, biking, or jogging, the trails provide a refreshing place to renew your energy. In addition the above mentioned activities we saw a botanist from England, a few birders, mothers walking children, and a man doing some bible studies. The walk provides a shady, traffic free environment that renews body and soul.
We biked the trail, and we learned that there are bike and kayak rentals available at reasonable prices near the Jefferson St. entrance to the trail. A couple of bridges over the James River bring you to this peaceful, enchanted place. You will find the Riverwalk well worth the time you spend on it.

Love the local restaurants. My favorite is Grays in the old bus station just off the walk. Then there is Mama Croketts cider doughnuts. I’ve tasted doughnuts all over the world and these are top three! This is a must. Grab one and walk over to the Margarita bar for a delicious drink. Don’t forget Waterdogs! This area is even more fun when there is a river function happening. Check with tourism calendar.
