We had a great tasting at Linden and really enjoyed the varietals they offer. We opted for both the white and red tasting and were pleased with both. It was treat to talk wine with owner for bit. Staff were excellent and well informed about the wine, their vineyards, and their philosophy about their vintages. If you get a chance to make a weekend of it visit Liden then stay overnight down the road at the Black Dog Farm Inn.

The views and the tasting room were lovely, but we were turned away upon walking in because they were “fully booked for the rest of the day.” There were maybe 8 people in the entire facility and so many empty tables - the place essentially felt empty. We even looked online and there were reservations still open, so we could have just made a reservation for 15 minutes later but they still wouldn’t serve us. Seems silly and snobby to turn people away when there’s plenty of room AND reservations open. We are a mellow group and it’s not like we would be disturbing the atmosphere. I’d understand if they were truly busy and at capacity but there was NO ONE there.

We understand your disappointment but we are normally by reservation only. When your group arrived we were preparing for our next round of tasters with reservations. We would love to share the history of our vineyard, the philosophy of our winemaking and our wines with you in the future.

Amazing wine, very friendly staff and owners. The property and tasting room are also beautiful. I still can’t believe they are making such great wine in Virginia. No need to go out west when places like this exist in the east. 5 stars!

We took a ride out Fauquier County to stop by a couple of wineries today since the weather was so nice. We had been to Linden once before and enjoyed their wines and tasting room so we decided to stop in again. It was fairly empty when we arrived and we were able to do a tasting right away. As we remembered, we liked their wine and wanted to buy a bottle to have there. When we expressed interest in purchasing a bottle, we were asked if we were case members. Since we were not members of Linden, we were told we could not stay and have any wine there. The previous time we were at winery was on a weekday during the off season so we were able to sit on their deck with a bottle and did not realize the exclusivity of Linden. Apparently on any weekend and Fridays during the summer, only case members can sit and stay. Linden offers no other options for non-members. Other wineries we have visited have member-only areas and other exclusive benefits for their wine clubs, but there has always been an option to purchase and sit for a glass or two for non-members.

In my opinion, it is bad for business to have such restrictions. I can appreciate member-only perks, but to force non-members to either buy into the club or leave seems like it would alienate more people than it would attract. There are others wineries out in Fauquier County that are more hospitable than Linden so I would recommend staying away...unless you are a member.

I was surprised with the rude staff and poor service. They make you feel like if you don't know much about wine, then you don't "belong" at this vineyard.

I would pass on stopping at this vineyard. Too many others to visit that offer both great service and good quality. Its too bad Linden vineyards didn't understand that poor or rude service makes any high quality product turn into vinegar.

My wife and another couple spent last weekend visiting four Virginia wineries. We went to Linden at the suggestion of the owner of another winery.

Put in wine terms: visiting Linden had notes of exclusivity and inhospitality with a strong finish of arrogance.

We went to taste a particular wine. We arrived and began a tasting and after a couple of glasses we asked if the recommended wine was one they featured. The answer was yes, but that was a different more exclusive tasting and it was too late to sign up. The sad thing was no one offered us a choice upon arriving.

We asked if we could buy a glass of the wine we sought. We were told they only sold by the glass to people who were members of the "Case Club". So we bought a bottle and then were told we could not drink it in their seating area, unless we bought a case.

If you are seriously into wine, there might be something at Linden for you, but for the casual crowd interested in a fun experience, there are hundreds of other Virginia wineries where you'll get a proper welcome.

Visited this winery twice in the past few months. The first time I was a guest of someone who was a "case club" member. It was a very enjoyable experience and I thought the scenery was exquisiste. The wine was also very good, in comparison to some of the other VA wines I've tried. The second time I went was on 4th July. We got there just in time to taste to wine and then they closed, so we didn't get to enjoy the deck, although we would have been eligible as non-members, since it was a weekday. I agree with many of the other reviews regarding the "case club" membership. It's a shame because it makes the place feel unwelcoming and snobby. I would consider going back there, but I urge the owners to lift the ridiculous membership rule, which only serves to alienate people.

Wow. Wow. Wow. This is the best vineyard to visit in Virginia bar none. We spend a lovely relaxing Saturday at Linden and enjoyed a vineyard tour led by the owner. We then enjoyed a wonderful tasting, followed by enjoying a bottle of wine on a beautiful deck. Top notch. A must visit!

First off, TA should update the details of Linden - this winery is not in Middleburg, VA rather Linden, VA. Linden is 40 minutes away from Middleburg.

Okay here is the deal on this winery. If you are looking for the best white wine in VA - this is the place to come. I'm a case club member and their sav blacn and chard (particularly Hardscrabble) are exquisite!

Now for the negative.... the women that work here are very rude and extremely pretentious. At first I thought I was being too sensitive when I first visited Linden, however each subsequent visit I experienced the same cold treatment..... if that wasn't enough I just hoped on TA to see similar reviews regarding their service.

In sum, go for the great wine and nice back porch (open to case club members only which I think is very caste system esque and something that I loathe) but don't go expecting warm and friendly customer service.

I wish one could take the wines from Linden and hire the staff from Philip Carter or Fox Meadow to create a spectacular experience.

My friends and I returned to Linden this past weekend for the last time. We typically visit Linden a couple of times a summer and we've noticed that their "rules" have become increasingly intolerant and stringent.

An earlier commentator noted the "case club." Basically, this means that to sit on the deck (even if it is empty) and order food you must buy a case of wine. And, every club member may only have three guests with him/her. (Over the past couple of years, at least one in our group has been a club member.) During our most recent trip, we were a group of seven which means, according to their rules, that we needed to have two club members and purchase two cases of wine if we wanted to sit on the empty deck... Seriously? I knew Linden was uptight, but we were all flabbergasted by their hostility. One of the people in our group is from Napa and she was shocked that a winery would set such stringent rules and treat customers with such disdain.

It was truly disappointing and I will never return. Moreover, I will caution others interested in exploring Virginia wineries to steer clear of Linden. It is such a shame because the grounds are lovely and the wine is good. But, frankly, there is no excuse for the hostility and pretense.
