Amazing tribute to the general and his era and all the brave men who served under him. Definitely worth several hours of your time.

George C. Marshall Jr. deserves a larger place in world history!
Feb 2020
Sure - Everyone has heard of the Marshall Plan. In high school, we talked about rebuilding Europe for less than one class period. I am ashamed of what I did not know about this amazing man. The George C. Marshall Museum does an excellent job of highlighting the amazing life and body of work of a man that was truly ahead of his time! I particularly enjoyed the "Marshall in 30 Objects" display in the basement. His insight, wit and wisdom is made quite clear. Have a bite to eat at the Southern Inn before or after you spend an afternoon in the museum - it makes for a GREAT day. I left the museum wanting to know more. If people only knew the breadth and depth of his intellect, involvement, the hurdles before him and how he had a hand in shaping and improving the lives of people from all around the world during the 20th Century and beyond there would be many more cities and boulevards named in his honor.

the bldg & its contents are well worth your time
Oct 2019
husband & wife spent day in Lexington @ W&L & VMI campuses touring museums; this was middle stop between Robert Edward Lee Chapel & Museum @ Washington & Lee University & Virginia Military Institute Museum; it was so worth our time; the bldg is a late 1960s time capsule inside; I was just as interested in its library & furnishings, recessed vintage file cabinets built into office walls, floors, green vintage cabinets in copy room, etc, as I was the Marshall contents; the museum is full of lots of stuff to see & read, but is a reasonable size to digest; the film @ the beginning sets the tone to fully appreciate what you see as you move through; note the many WWII posters all over the halls, & wander up & down each one to see all that is there, not just in the main galleries; did not see dedicated parking but we had no trouble finding a parallel spot on the street near the entrance

Excellent group tour
Oct 2019
I think our group of 28+ were all pleased with the excellent group tour. Many of us expressed a desire to come back again and to learn more about General Marshall. The leaders highlighted the museum's displays, thus permitting us time to ask questions.

The value of this man cannot be contained in one museum
Oct 2019
The museum is great and does a very good job but can only tell a small portion of what General Marshall meant to the US and the world.

We are in a time in which people look for interesting stories about minor figures in history. This man is more than a giant and far too little is known about his accomplishments. A giant who was incredibly humble, both in war and in peace.

Being on the grounds of VMI, from which he graduated, is appropriate. His statue looms over the parade grounds, as it should.

Excellent museum
Oct 2019 • Friends
Obviously it is focused on George C. Marshall but gives a great job of showing the development of his character as well as why he was a brilliant leader. It makes clear why a soldier who fought in both world wars deserved the Noble peace prize. Do not miss.

Homage To a LEADER

I knew of The Marshall Plan and had learned more of General Marshall in David Brooks bestseller, Road To Character but the museum and the video were instructive, eye-opening and impressive. It is definitely a MUST See.

Gem of a Museum
Jul 2019
My wife and I were travelling from Harrisonburg, VA to Athens, OH and decided to spend a little time in Lexington. We were driving around looking at the campuses of VMI and Washington & Lee and happened to pass this museum. We decided to stop.

That was an excellent decision. We were greeted by Mr. Glen Carpenter, a Visitor Relations Associate with the museum. He was gave us a lot of information and suggested things to see after hearing our time was limited. We absolutely must return to the museum and spend more time.

While paying for a few souvenirs of our visit, I learned that the museum holds the library of William and Elizebeth Friedman. The Friedman couple are this country's foremost cryptologists and cryptanalysts. They were instrumental in our successes in World War II. I would like to return and combine a visit to this museum with the National Cryptologic Museum and the National Security Agency at Annapolis Junction, MD, between Washington, DC and Baltimore.

Honoring A Soldier/Statesman
Aug 2019 • Solo
The George C. Marshall Museum is a hidden gem in Lexington, Virginia. Tucked into a corner on the Virginia Military Institute, the Museum is a great tribute to one of our country’s finest soldier/statesmen. While the Museum is relatively small, it is well-organized and full of hidden treasures from the life of a great American! If you are in the area, swing by! You won’t be disappointed!

A Great American
Aug 2019 • Couples
We finally went to the museum after all these years. We should have gone sooner. The museum pays homage to one of our American heroes. He was a great Soldier, but a better Statesman.

The museum follows his career with lots of historical anecdotes. And the visuals are outstanding.

When you go into the Reading Room, you expect General Marshall to be sitting at his desk.

It's worth going out of your way if you're anywhere near Lexington and have any interest in history. Plus... you get great voiews of W&L and VMI as you drive there.

Thank you for your visit! His mahogany desk in the reading room (library) *is* pretty impressive - imagine everything that was planned there!
