The Boxerwood Gardens Park is a magical place for families with small children...delightful areas present kids with opportunities to interact and play in a natural setting. They may get a little dirty or wet playing with the water pump or crawling though tunnels...so wear old clothes before you go here. Benches available for parents or grandparents to supervise the children's... More

We needed a new outdoor place to take a few posed photos of our son in his VMI uniform. We found the Boxerwood Garden to be the perfect place to take a leisurely walk and we found plenty of places to take posed photos. Being February the garden was not in full flowery regalia, however the easy to follow trails... More

Came here on New Year's eve with my husband. Despite the fact that it's winter, it was still a beautiful ramble for us. It is a sort of confusing site. There's signage, but it's not always easy to find and the main building was closed when we visited. It's also a drive through a residential area which was a little... More

So many little natural details to see! Fun for the kids and relaxing for the young at heart. Dig deep to find the gems... the best of nature is hidden in the understory. When there during the summer be sure to check the local schedule, we stopped in on a Friday evening when we were graced with live local music... More

What a wonderful place to visit anytime of the year . Many paths to wander and so many interesting displays around each corner. There is a fantastic area for children to play . A bone yard for them to discover and a canoe for them to have adventures in. There is a fairy land as well. A charming place for... More

Boxerwood Garden is a gorgeous walk through different habits, 100's of varieties of Japanese Maples, over 2000 tree species, a magical children's play area and beautiful bridges and paths through the woods and gardens. They also now have a fairy garden. Don't miss this gem. Perfect for taking pictures.

Fabulously interesting stop for a bit of wandering. Lighthearted atmosphere that is the outgrowth of a community organization. Includes a children's garden full of imaginative outdoor play areas right near the parking lot--wear old clothes and enjoy! Our kids, ages 7 and 3, adored the "tightropes" and the birdhouse treehouse. There's also a mudpie kitchen, a "tunnel" through a "mountain,"... More

Visited the gardens on a warm summer day and was amazed the diversity of gardens, fields, ponds, marshes, plants, birds, mammals, butterflies in a spot that is actually in town. A doe and I had some eye to eye time! It is a huge undertaking but loved the whimsical sculpture and all the students working to spread mulch and compost.... More

I had a few hours to kill in Lexington and wanted a walk rather than strolling the streets shopping. I found Boxerwood by accident, following a sign for a birding trail. This was an absolute treat: gorgeous shrubs, well maintained paths and interesting sculptures and hidden surprises along the way. Perfect place to take a walk anytime of day it's... More
