Went to see Top Gun Maverick on a Sunday night showing. A van load ticket price was $16.45 including tax!! Thats hard to beat!!Had to drive one hour from Lynchburg and definitely worth it. A classic drive-In with everything clean and working. Excellent concessions at a fair price and the movie was great on the outdoor screen!! Go check it out if your in the Lexington VA area!!

Hull's Drive-In theatre is one of seven drive-in theatres still operating in Virginia and the only non-profit drive-in theatre in the United States. Located at 2367 North Lee Highway in Lexington, Virginia, it opened on August 6, 1950 and has survived some bumpy times to keep the show going. The 319-space drive-in shows current, family-friendly movies every weekend (Friday, Saturday and Sunday) between March and October. In 2014, TripAdvisor.com voted Hull's the No. 7 top drive-in in the United States. But it always wasn't so rosy. Several years ago, the theatre was threatened with closure. But a group of concerned and dedicated citizens, calling themselves the Hull's Angels, a local non-profit group, raised funds to preserve the drive-in. I still recall going to drive-in theatres in the Chicago area in the late 1950s and early 1960s. But they are long gone. Hull's is a refreshing trip back in time.

I remember when I was growing up in the 1950s that you could go to a drive-in theatre in nearly every town during the summer and watch a motion picture. Not anymore. All of the drive-ins I used to attend have given way to housing developments and shopping centers and Interstate highways. All of them except Hull's Drive-In at 2367 North Lee Highway in Lexington, Virginia. It is the only non-profit, community-owned drive-in theatre in the United States. With the exception of one year, Hull's has been showing double features and selling hot dogs and popping popcorn since 1950. There is room for 319 cars. Snuggle in your car or bring a blanket or lawn chairs and have a picnic. There is plenty of space for the kids to play by themselves unless it's a Harry Potter movie. The concession stand should satisfy all of your cravings. Be a part of history. The theatre with a 50-by-90 foot screen was built by W.C. Atkins in 1950 and operated as the Lee Drive-In until Sebert W. Hull purchased the business in 1957. For decades, Hull and his wife operated the drive-in as a family-friendly business supported by a diverse and loyal following in the Rockbridge area community. When Hull died in 1998, Mrs. Hull sold the drive-in to W.D. Goad, whose auto body shop is adjacent to the drive-in on Route 11 north of Lexington. In 1999, faced with the high cost of needed technical improvements and upgrades required by the movie industry, Goad opted not to open the theatre. Determined to reopen the drive-in, a local organization known as Hull's Angels was formed. They raised $10,000 and took steps to legally incorporate as a non-profit corporation, reached agreement on a two-year lease and reopened the drive-in July, 2000 with new projection and sound equipment. Today, the theatre is run by a mix of volunteer and paid staff with all of the pride that the Hulls had in the 1950s when they presented their first Bugs Bunny cartoon.

First of all: It's pet-friendly (on leash only & bring a poopie bag if you bring your pup).

They have a nice snack bar staffed by volunteers. We often bring food, but make sure to buy popcorn and snacks there to support the theater.

Cars start lining up early for the popular movies. We go at 6 pm and take a meal to eat. Kids play in front of the screen until the sun goes down and the movies start.

Double features are the norm. They use the radio station to play the audio and some of the spaces still have the traditional drive-in speakers.

Is a great place to take a big group of people and get spaces together. Pick up trucks parked backwards make great theater seats! (see pics)

We love Drive-ins, and Hull's is one of the best. It is a wonderful value, two first run movies for less than the price of one. I take my family of 5 here and we watch two movies, eat dinner (food is good!), and get snacks for the price of one movie at a regular theater! Plus the people are great and the atmosphere is top notch. We bring folding chairs, turn our minivan around, open the hatch and crank the stereo for the movie sound. We've been here more than once and we LOVE it. This is a must see place.

This was our first time to a Drive-In theater and it was amazing!!! We saw 2 new movies for $7/per person! That is a steal ! We went early and sat in our car listening to the 50's music that pumped through the speakers. It was such a neat atmosphere. Like being transported back in time. They had a snack bar with all sorts of fried foods and treats. This place is fantastic. So much so that we might make the trip down to Virginia JUST TO COME BACK HERE! Thanks for a fantastic night Hull's!

Hull's Drive-In reminded us of the old days back in the 60's but with better sound and picture quality. Great movies, traditional refreshment stand, good crowd. What fun!

Thank you for the great review. We do like to help people feel like they are stepping back in time a little without going completely back to the 60's. Hope to see you out here again soon.

This place is awesome!!! We took our teens out for a movie night and had a ball. It was so much fun spending time, laughing and crying (movie had a sad ending) together. All while not having to worry about a theatre of people. Get there early so you can get a good spot. Gate opens at 7:00 pm.

I have visited Hull's multiple times in the last few years and it is always a "fun-tastic" experience! I've visited with my family, involving a lot of children, and played football and cards while waiting for the show. This is also a fun and romantic date spot, the price is excellent and you're guaranteed a good time :)
