We live close by, so the last week before school ended we got some Lola cupcakes went to the Demonstration garden, sat at the picnic table right outside the garden, had our cupcakes and the kids walked/ran around the garden.
While there, a Master Gardener lecture on floral arranging had just ended. As I understand it, Master Gardener has free lectures there on Tuesdays.
The garden is small yet pretty. I can't imagine tourists coming here but if you are in the neighborhood and want a nice picnic setting and a place for kids to get some fresh air for a bit, this is the place. There is a grassy area and one picnic table right outside the demo garden. During farm tour in the fall the Master Gardeners also have scarecrow making for the kids.
I would imagine this would be a great place for an artist to come and practice drawing plants and flowers since there is such a variety here.
We stayed about an hour and that was enough. there is no fee and the garden/parking is somewhat hidden behind a barn. If you head towards the pool in Ida Lee you will pass a barn on your right, right after the barn make a right and there is a small parking lot.
Pretty garden.

If you are in the area, then you should check this place out. We always visit the flower garden that is next to the veggie garden.

This is a beautiful little garden just outside of the historic downtown area. It was nice to sot and enjoy the beautiful flowers on a sunny spring day and have a little picnic out here!

Whether the fall farm tour, spring or summer a visit to the demonstration garden is always worthwhile. Blooms, vegetable gardening and composting on view, a children’s garden and even a place for your wedding!

The Master Gardener demonstration garden is a beautiful fixture on the Ida Lee Park. The gardens have a variety of plants - from vegetables to herbs to native Virginian plants. It is worth the walk through if you are visiting Ida Lee Park.
