Great library and local historical attraction

I was researching a topic related to local / early American history and I found the library, and it's staff, to be both knowledgeable and friendly.

This is a great library for civil war buffs. It is NOT a general library - you will not find lego or mystery books. This is a research library, and an outstanding one. The collection is extensive, for the topics covered. I was looking for Loudoun County civil war stuff, and this was a true treasure trove for me. The... More

This is a great library! Their resources are vast and varied, and the people working here are extremely helpful. I recommend it if you need some local history especially.

If Civil War research is your avocation, you will find many books & other records pertaining to the CW (from both the Union and the Confederate points of view) at the Balch. I was there to follow my genealogy in the Virginia/West Virginia areas but couldn't help but be impressed with the CW records. One of the staff, Stephanie (a... More

We went to the Balch library looking for information on some specific family genealogy that has been difficult to find. The amount of reference material was amazing and we spent an entire day there and could have spent more time. What really made a difference was the staff. They were engaged and genuinely interested in helping find traces of these... More

Two blocks from the main intersection of Leesburg, the Balch Library is a testament to the importance of space dedicated to intellectual pursuits. The library houses a good collection of contemporary fiction and non-fiction books as well as numerous newspapers and periodicals. There are enough computers for those making connections on the Internet also. The Balch collection specializes in historical... More

The Library not only has Virginia research material, but also many other states, as well. The staff is very helpful and knowledgeable. There are many useful databases, including Ancestry and Genealogy Bank. It is well worth your time to visit!
