I went with good friends to NextStop Theatre on the Saturday before the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday. What a perfect time to see The Mountaintop, brilliantly written by Katori Hall. The pacing of the show and direction by Kevin McAllister were perfect. The two exceptional actors were required to express an abundance of feelings, movements, and attitudes throughout 90 minutes, which flew by quickly. Curtis McNeil as Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. portrayed doubt, fear, passion, and gratitude, while Shayla Simmons as the hotel maid brought coffee, humor, curiosity, teasing, compassion, and more. Simmons has an outstanding flair for physical comedy, from her facial expressions and body stances to excellent slapstick and oration. The script shows Dr. King as truly human – full of misgivings, yet struggling to continue to serve his cause. McNeil also had his share of physical humor when an ingenious plot twist revved up the action. As the ending neared, the actors’ feelings were palpable. A beautiful script, talented actors, great director, and effective stage crew need an appreciative audience. There are ten dates left in this series; get your tickets as fast as you can! I look forward to seeing Simons, McNeil, and McAllister in other productions in our area. Bravo to all.

I just saw Secret Garden at NextStop and was totally blown away by the quality of the performance. It is head and shoulders over other community theater I have seen-- very professional, creatively staged, amazing casting, great acting, and sensational voices--not a weak member in the troupe. They took risks with creative set design using projections to great atmospheric effect and subtle stages changes that led to a freshness of approach. I expect to see these actors on more important stages in the future when they are "discovered". They were that exceptional. Especially noteworthy was Isabella Brody, a 6th grader in the lead role of Mary. She has wisdom and ability beyond her age, and the voice of an angel. This was my first time at NextStop, and I will be back soon.

I had no real expectation of what this show was gonna be like before going other than thinking the title was funny and knowing it was a new musical with original songs.
It was a bit of hike to drive out to Herndon from DC, but so worth it. This theater is hidden in this generic industrial park with pretty much no storefront at all, but once you get in it's a great setup. For this production, they had it set up cabaret style with tables and chairs facing a small stage. We got a signature hot drink from the bar called wth maple bourbon, apple cider and smores topping which was #$%ing delicious.
The show was only 2 actors playing all the parts and a piano player. The music was delightful and catchy and the actors and the show was hilarious. Our table was laughing harder than the rest of the room at some of the 'edgier' humor, but I'm all about dead baby and world war II jokes. I had a much better time than I even expected to and would highly recommend this production and this theater.

I went to see "Sylvia" at Elden Street Players Theater (now called Next Stop Theater)...the venue is small with a sharp pitch to steps in the audience area so that all seats have excellent visibility - no worrying about tall people in front of you. The play, "Sylvia" was a riot, with a first rate cast and very reasonable ticket prices. Highly recommend this theater!

The location is tucked away in an unlikely business park setting, but as soon as you enter the theater, you are in another world. The performances are intentionally crafted to fit the space and level of intimacy provided by a Black Box theater, but have the professionalism and polish of anything I've seen in Washington DC play houses (and a lot of the same actors). Every season has a variety of shows including musicals, plays, and a Christmas play that showcases local children and is always a fun event. We try not to miss a single performance!

I had never heard of this 114 seat theater before the Acrocats came to town. It's very small, with an even smaller lobby and bar, so you buy tickets online and just check in by name as your arrive. There are no assigned seats, so they recommend getting there 30 minutes in advance to stake out your seat. There are no bad seats. It's located in the Sunset Hills Industrial Park and there are several small, mostly ethnic, restaurants within walking distance.

My one criticism is that they do not reserve handicapped seats. Instead, they list the front row as available for anyone who doesn't want to walk up steps. That means, everyone goes for the front row to be close to the action, whether handicapped or not. If you are truly handicapped, you have to choose a show when that front row has not been sold out. I would recommend a change to this policy as I had to walk up several rows with my cane, when very able folks took the front row seats.

We're glad you enjoyed your visit! Thanks for the feedback about Accessible Seating. We're sorry Accessible Seating wasn't available for the sold out performance you attended. All of our seats require climbing stairs with the exception of designated Accessible Seats. Once all non-Accessible seats have sold out for a performance (which was the case with the Acro-Cats), the general public is entitled to purchase Accessible Seats. Additionally, the Americans with Disabilities act states that Venues cannot require proof of disability as a condition for purchasing tickets for Accessible Seats. If you ever have questions about Accessible Seating, please do not hesitate to call our Box Office or Management Offices.

I've yet to be disappointed by a show at the Industrial Strength Theater. It's a tiny little community theater the is run with star quality.

Small theater with seats that have an excellent view (close and steep). The stage is small but allows intimacy. Small snack cart with eclectic options. We are season ticket holders and have enjoyed every performance of the year. Singin in the Rain was exceptional. We did not think they would make it rain on the small set … but they did a super job of incorporating … exceptionally well done.

Amour, an energetic musical love story at the NextStop Theatre, was adapted from the 1943 short story Le Passe-Muraille by Marcel Aymé. The music by Michel Legrand, French film composer, is melodic, and the libretto by Didier van Cauwelaert is very clever. Scenic Designer Jack Golden and his carpenters and painters construct remarkable sturdy sets in their small venue. In this case, there were seven shops with doors and a balcony depicting the 18th arrondissement (Montmarte) in Paris. Each door is colorful, with hand-painted signs above, and some brilliant enhancements that further the plot. The actors have their work cut out for them: zany characters, lots of emotion, dancing, and the entire show is sung from beginning to end (think The Umbrellas of Cherbourg on steroids). The actors’ characters require a range of feelings from one moment to the next, and the physical comedy was rife. Rich Khatcheressian as the main character Dusoleil was amazing, and Teresa Danskey as Isabelle gave a strong, lovely, and heartfelt performance. Molly Hicks Larson has an extraordinary sense of movement, voice, and comedy. Director Gloria DuGan kept the pace brisk while Jeannie Torres contributed lively choreography making every actor shine. The orchestra, as always, was excellent. Next Stop is a small venue, and my sole criticism is that at times the microphones could have been a little softer, as these performers can belt out a tune. Amour is jewel of a show. Don’t miss the hilarity that ensues when boy yearns for girl and girl pines for boy, and all of us cheer for our unlikely hero.
