Met by great staff, so helpful. Loads of civil war history/pictures that occurred in the area. Very interesting. Lots of brochures and magazines about the area. Excellent confectionery in the welcome center. Had to buy some. Enjoyed the gift shop. Great place to start.

The place is not in Harrisonburg as the map notes. It's a about ten miles southeast of the downtown area. The map location is incorrect.v

The Kemper House is in historic Port Republic, a little village with a huge heritage. The volunteer staff here does everything possible on a shoestring budget. Don't expect the Smithsonian but this little site is worth a side trip from Harrisonburg--ask about visiting the nearby...More
