What a GLORIOUSLY relaxing & enjoyable visit my friends & I had at Glen Manor Vineyards yesterday! Three of us had driven up from Fredericksburg, VA, meeting up with a friend who lives locally & who had highly recommended this winery. And was he ever right! He'd made reservations for us all, so we could enjoy a leisurely afternoon sampling delicious red & white flights, sharing a favorite bottle, spreading out our picnic lunch, & safely visiting w/ one another while taking in wide open views of the gorgeous vineyards, Blue Ridge Mountains, & Skyline Drive high above. Unlike many wineries that crowd in as many people as they are able, Glen Manor presently is open by reservation only, providing first rate customer service, & taking superior (yet not at all onerous) precautions to ensure everyone's safety - from their initial greeting & tableside service to their restroom policy, to final purchases, payment, & good-byes-til-next-time! First rate customer service experience, exceptional environment, delicious wines ... What a MARVELOUS DAY we all had! THANK YOU, GLEN MANOR!

First class quality wines and staff can easily be enjoyed at Glen Manor. For some visitors, it may come as a shock that Glen Manor can accept only groups of 6 or fewer. Most wineries in Virginia, IMO, are operated first and foremost as a tourist experience, secondly (or lower in priority) as a place of fine wine creation. Glen Manor is one of only two wineries of the ~ 240 in Virginia that prioritize the production of artisan wines of national caliber quality over the party experience common to most wineries in the state. Glen Manor is *different* this way. It is incumbent upon every visitor to either accept the wishes of the owners to make your experience here intimate and quietly fulfilling rather than loud and bacchanalian, or simply to select other wineries for your party and save your plans to visit here when you are ready for a different kind of experience. And a better one, at least for people like me. OK, I am a "wine snob", having spent a decade in the wine business. My appreciation of Glen Manor is rooted in its pursuit of excellence in its products. Make no mistake, the small winery is producing some of the very best wine in the eastern United States. Its best wines challenge high-scoring west coast wines in overall quality and tend to be more age-worthy than its California counterparts. Yet, in each and every visit to this beautiful property over the last several years, I have thoroughly enjoyed my time here just as much due to the generous hospitality of Kelly and Jeff White and their wonderfully trained staff. This is a winery in which to listen and learn as you taste inside, then to carry a bottle or two out to the lawn to enjoy with your snacks as you contemplate how those vines on the steep hillsides in your view can be coaxed to give up such delightful juice. If you are interested at all in how fine wine is made in the vineyard - Thomas Jefferson's dream for Virginia is wonderfully manifested here - this is your place. If you want to travel with a busload and consume heavily in a party atmosphere, good for you - but there are about 200 other wineries in Virginia which will welcome you, so make your plans accordingly. Save your trip to Glen Manor for a time when you want to be treated as an individual, when you want to learn how this wonderful property came to be, how it produces such fine products, and when you want to relax with a bottle of seriously fine wine and enjoy the view of the Shenandoah mountains. There is no better place in the eastern U.S. to enjoy an intimate and rewarding vineyard experience. Just remember and respect the 6-person group limit, and don't ask for exceptions. As the fortunate beneficiary of this approach to wine tourism, I can vouch that the experience here is as friendly, warm, and fulfilling a winery visit as you are likely to find anywhere. This would be true even if the wines weren't steadily getting better and better as vines mature and as Jeff and his team apply the growing body of knowledge about how to make great wine.

There is a six person group limit here. While visiting a friend of ours showed up later which put us over the limit, she was refused service. This rule is clearly posted but it seems that a little discretion could be used... Won't be back.

When reading some of the poorer reviews, it seems to do with limiting number of group attendees. When you arrive you can see why. The indoor tasting room accommodates only a few tables and the actual counter. Outside, there are several chairs and tables around the yard. A large group would be problematic for other small groups to enjoy. We were such a group (2) on a road trip from NY through Virginia and stumbled onto the winery from a sign far away. We really enjoyed it. They grow and bottle their own wine making the fact that the wine tasted so great that much more of a big deal. We enjoyed a split of the white sauvignon blanc while sitting outside. Afterwards we purchased a bottle of their Hodder Hill blend which we have yet to enjoy (though tasted). We have visited many wineries on our travels both domestic and european. This one is small and intimate which makes the experience so good. The people you speak with knowledgeable and proud of their product. We recommend taking the time out to visit this place. It will be better in warm weather when you can sit outside in the warm sun but indoors will also be enjoyable. they offer a tasting selection as well as small/larger bottles to enjoy there or to take home. Do give this place a try.

We have been visiting Glen Manor for about 2 years and it is one of our favorite wineries in the area. The atmosphere suits us perfectly--small groups, peaceful, picnics allowed, dogs allowed outside. The wine is of the highest quality and the view ain't too shabby. We love our tastings with Kelly and her famous bread :-) Do yourself a favor and bring a picnic, do a tasting, grab a bottle and sit outside and enjoy the mountain & vineyard view!
