Ultimate in quiet and solitude
May 2021
Was foggy and damp the entire time we visited but still didn't affect how much we enjoyed the solitude of this park. Skyline Drive is delightful and we drove the entire length north to south. Was disappointed that displays at the visitors center were closed off (although the gift shop was open??).

Beautiful and peaceful place
May 2021 • Couples
Shenandoah National Park like all of the national parks is a wonderful place we entered at the south end and drove the entire length of the park. The mountain scenery is beautiful. There are hundreds of hiking trails that range from easy to difficult. There are two areas with lodging one at Big Meadow and the other at Skyland. We stayed at Skyland Lodge which I will review separately. There are also a number of campgrounds. I have been to many national parks and while I cannot rate this in the top group of national parks it is still well worth your time to visit.

Marauding band of 100 intimidating motorists!
Apr 2021
My son and I spent 5 hours driving and hiking on and off of Sky Line Drive on Sunday, April 25th. While the views, park design and pretty much everything else was excellent, our precious time together was almost ruined by the 100 or so young motor heads who were marauding though the park in their low, high end sports cars. They were not there to hike or site see but rather to be as loud, obnoxious, intimidating and unsafe as possible: tail gating, speeding, laying rubber, passing in non passing zones. There was not a park ranger in site so they were free to just do their unrelenting marauding through the north section of the park. I called Shenendoah NP about this - left a very terse and specific voice message with them asking them to call me back and also e-mailed but I was ignored on both fronts. I'm shocked that they let them in in the first place, stunned there was no ranger presence and shocked that they ignored my contacts. Wow how so very disappointed!!!!

Beautiful Place
Apr 2021
It was very cold and windy the first day that we went, but that didn't take away from all the beauty of the park. There are many overlooks off Skyline Drive with amazing views. The road itself is very picturesque with pink flowering trees against the backdrop of green trees. The park ranger at the Visitor Center was very helpful with tips on hiking and gave us some maps of the trails.

Early April Visit
Apr 2021 • Couples
We hiked the Park the first week of April and had an amazing time. We were there for 3.5 days and found it to be the perfect amount of time to get in all the hikes we wanted to without being rushed.
If you plan to go late March/early April, be sure to bring many layers. We wore everything from a short sleeve t-shirt to our down winter coats.
The Shenandoah National Park app was very helpful. I’d recommend downloading ahead of time. Also recommend downloading your Google Map ahead of time so it is available offline- we did not have much cell phone service in and around the Park.
On the weekend, the parking lots for the trailheads filled up. Make sure you have a back up hike planned in case you arrive to your pre planned hike and the lot is already full. (The app helped see what hikes are nearby.)
While the trees were not yet in bloom when we visited, we were able to see additional rapids and waterfalls clearer than we would have if the trees had been filled out.

Skyline Drive = magnificent views
Feb 2021
Came to the park to hike and check out Skyline Drive. Awesome views, and really enjoyed ourselves. When we went, there was still a lot of snow, which made hiking difficult. Park Ranger was super friendly and helpful. Can't wait to go back!

Great Vistas and Trails
Sep 2020
There's a lot to do here. Many hiking trails lead to beautiful waterfalls and the Skyline Drive is filled with one beautiful sight after another. Parking at trail heads was limited for us, so we were unable to hike a few trails. Our RV site at Big Meadows Campground was awful. It was poorly graded and leveling was near to impossible. We learned from the ranger that many sites date back to the 1930s and have not been refurbished.

Fun Scenic Drive
Oct 2020 • Family
What a wonderful park! We drove the southern half on day one, and the whole length on day two. One day was overcast and a bit misty, but the next was clear blue skies! So many great overlooks. Autumn colors were very impressive. We even went on a short hike as a family! Amazing October vacation idea!

Long Wait to Enter Park
Oct 2020
Went for a one day trip on Sat, Oct 17. Entered at Thornton Gap entrance and it took well over one hour and 30 minutes to get 2 miles to the entrance. Almost as long to leave Thornton Gap side. I purchased the park entrance fee online and they may have saved me 30 minutes. Beautiful as always...just a bit more crowded than usual...I guess due to the pandemic.

Definitely stop at Jenkins Fruit Stand at the bottom of Skyline Drive when leaving the Thornton Gap entrance/exit. They sell their own honey and Rinker Orchards Apple Cider. Delish!
