    AMAZING experience
We go horseback riding every time we go on vacation and this was THE BEST experience we’ve had so far. The staff was wonderful, the horses were well cared for and calm. The peacefulness and beautiful scenery of the mountains was just amazing. This was the highlight of our trip!!! I would highly recommend this wonderful place.

    Great Experience!
This was our second Summer staying in one of the 3 cabins. We had the best time on both visits. The 2 cabins we stayed in were clean and had plenty of room for our family of 4. We loved walking down to the horses every evening and feeding them carrots. My girls would stay down there all night if we let them. We’ve done the trail ride both visits and Jake was amazing during both. My youngest daughter has talked about him since last Summer. She was so nervous and he put her completely at ease. We will definitely be visiting again in the future.

    Trail ride was amazing
We had a great time at Fort Valley stables!! My friends and I went for the 1.5hr trail ride and had the best time. Peter was a great guide and our horses were wonderful. Very well priced trail rides in a beautiful area! We’re already planning our trip back 😊😊

    Great family day
We had a great experience with kids with the 1 hour horseback riding guided trail. The guides were personable and knowledgeable. They took pictures of us, helmet was optional and they did well matching horses with us. We did not feel rushed afterwards, we were able to feed the horses apples we brought and they restarted the fire pit with our request no problem. Great pricing and enjoyed the clear information, no financial surprises when we arrived.

This was our first trip to Virginia and fort valley ranch. We stayed in Shenandoah national park but due to covid they were not offering trail rides. After googling I found Jordan hollow and fort valley, and fort valley was the one that answered- and we were lucky enough to jump on a ride a few hours later.

Overall, it was “okay”. It seemed like the lady at the desk was the wife and then the husband and son gave rides. The older gent said they had just bought the place as COVID hit and had just moved out from Colorado. This place was owned by someone else prior to April 2020.

The trail ride was through their property which backs up to a forest, and you feel like you are in the actual forest so it’s nice. The horses were calm and nice.

What I didn’t like-

The latrines they have for public use need to be cleaned and the office area needed to be cleaned and dusted for spiders.

What really bothered me though was while we were on the ride someone questioned a horses shoe that was loose and the owner said “oh yeah we saw that right before we went out” .... if you know and care about horses you know that was unsafe for the horse and really rubbed me the wrong way. Pull the horse and cancel the ride. Don’t put the horse in jeopardy.

Lastly, the lady at the desk asked us to add an additional $20 onto our ride as a tip BEFORE the ride. And then the ride was with the owners. So we definitely got taken there. If you are going to ask for a tip for yourselves, add it into the cost of the ride.

Anyway, it was okay and I’d come here again if skyland and Jordan hollow were unavailable.

Fort Valley Ranch did a great job of getting our young elementary-aged child comfortable on a horse. Jake led us on a trail ride and he was very patient with my child. We loved the experience and hope to be back soon.

My sister and nieces had such a memorable time at Fort Valley Ranch! Everyone was vey nice and knowledgeable. They made us feel welcome right from the start. They are very organized and instructions were quick and easy to remember. We had two guides on the ride, one in front and one in the back. Our front guide Ashely was very attentive with all of us especially my 9 year old niece who was a beginner rider with no riding experience. Our guide in the back was attentive as well and they constantly communicated to make sure our ride went smoothly. Each person was assigned a horse depending on the rider’s skillset. All of the horses were healthy, happy and well behaved. There is a small concession stand and a bathroom on site. They also have cute activities to partake in such as branding your very own ornaments! Also s'mores kits and a covered picnic area. During the ride there’s a small creek you ride over and some hills you ride up and down. Nothing too scary in my opinion. The landscape is mostly woods which is great because there is plenty of shade. The trail itself is mostly wide throughout. After the trail ride I really appreciated the time where we were able to take pictures with the horses and give them treats. The location is close to Luray Caverns so technically you could do both in one day if you wanted. I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND this excursion on your trip!

My girl scout troop just had an overnight outing at Fort Valley Ranch and they were incredible. Annie was patient and kind with our inexperienced group of campers and went out of her way to make sure all the girls had a good time. We had complicated logistics with our numbers changing but she did a great job accommodating a large group 22 people. Both the adults and girls had a good time and gave two big thumbs up. Thanks for being so patient with our girls and changing logistics.

Don’t just go for the horseback riding. The cabins here are perfect! They are clean and cozy with everything you need. There’s a hot shower in the cabin, kitchen is fully stocked with pans, utensils and cups. The owners are gracious and had prepared delicious homemade muffins that were in a basket upon our arrival.
We enjoyed fishing right near our cabin and the firepit right outside our cabin door. Wood was delivered and left next to the firepit.

The horses are well cared for and fun to visit after hours.
We will return!

We came for 3 nights to celebrate my Mom's 70th Birthday. We stayed in the Elk Cabin. The property is beautiful and peaceful. We did a 90 minute trail ride. That was very fun. Jake and Ashley were the Wranglers. They were nice. I greatly enjoyed spending time w the horses. Petting and feeding them carrots. Sarah was extremely friendly at the office. We will definitely come back. The Cabin was surface clean but truly needs a good deep clean. The windows and window sills, ceiling fans, lamps, were pretty dirty. I would recommend at least once every 2 months to do a deep clean. The kitchen had everything we needed. Please note you will not have cell service and the wifi is very spotty.

We loved this place! We decided on a trail ride at the last minute, they worked us into the schedule the same day and even gave us directions on how to get there form our home over the phone. I always worry about whether the animals are happy and these horses were clearly happy, healthy and well taken care of. Everyone was so, so friendly, and our guides were great at making everyone feel comfortable and keeping the friendly conversation going. Our guide was a local who grew up in the area and he even took the time to tell us about cool things to see nearby. The horses were so sweet, just gentle and calm and the whole experience was wonderful. If you are looking for a beautiful trail ride in the mountains, at a calm pace, for any experience level, you can't beat this place. Stunning views of the valley, beautiful ranch, friendly people. We will definitely continue to go there for a relaxing afternoon in the mountains!

We had a fantastic time!! Four out of the five us had never been on horseback before and the men that lead the trip were very friendly, organize, calm and made us feel at ease. They even offered to take pictures if you on your horse! Jake lead the group and was very knowledgeable about the horses and the area trees and animals. He was super friendly and tried to make everyone feel welcome. The horses seemed well cared for, very tame and easy to ride. The hour long trip had a nice variety of terrain through the woods- flat, up and down the hills, and through a pretty stream! We also saw some deer through the flowering trees. Although there wasn’t a lot of green yet, as it was the first weekend of April, it worked out well because we could see all the mountains in the distance, sunshine and no bugs! The whole family (kids age 9-15) really enjoyed their first ride!

Once we came back there was a fire pit going where we roasted some sausages and had a nice picnic lunch. The whole place kind of closes down for lunch which made for a nice and quite transition before our next activities. Plus it was great to have the option to stay and make our lunch over a fire which is not something we get to do very often!

The archery and ax throwing were new items they added this year and new activities for our family too! Jake was once again very enthusiastic, patient and helped teach us. We had a fun low key competition that my son won! He was so excited to get an ice cream, lip balm and a very cool mug as his prize! The price seemed a little high at first for us as a family of five, especially after a big morning of riding, but we had a super time doing both activities that we had never done before! Jake took a lot of time to teach each of us and gave us individual attention the entire time. Plus the big prize at the end made it really fun!

Overall everyone agreed that it was a really fun and relaxing day! We were so happy that it all worked out so well, and that my kids will have these awesome memories always of our family together!! Thank you!!

I hate to say too many nice things about this place because I’d be afraid we wouldn’t be able to get a reservation again when we wanted to return. But I must give credit where credit is due. My adult daughter treated me to a lovely IOU Christmas and birthday present at the Ranch. We stayed in one of the cabins for a few days which had more space and offered more than we needed. We hiked the area, toured the area, relaxed and of course took a wonderfully guided horseback ride. The weather was perfect and the family running this place, while relatively new to the area, seem to be doing all the right things. Wish it wasn’t so far as I’d make it a yearly event. Only negative was the woman camping near us who keep cursing at her dog to stop barking! Of course that has nothing to do with Fort Valley.
