About
In times of stress and uncertainty, a bottle of wine can provide some peace and relaxation for body, mind and spirit. A psychological and wine-o-logical getaway ! Currently featuring full service "flights" - a generous selection of wines, in crystal glassware, served at your table, by a knowledgeable team member who will describe the wines, answer your questions, share some local stories, and chat with you during your visit: a great personal experience. DuCard is a gorgeous boutique vineyard and winery at the edge of the Shenandoah National Park, named Virginia's Greenest Winery, with great wines and personal service in a relaxing location. Authenticity: more and more, wineries buy grapes from others, or even contract out wine-making to someone else. Not us: 90% of our fruit comes from the three local sites that we actively farm, and all the wines are made on-site, by us. Terroir - or sense of place - is what many look for. You'll find it at DuCard

This place advertised for a big seafood event yesterday. The website and the person I spoke to say we can get tickets at the door. We drove a couple of hours to attend only to get turned away! They opened at 12pm and we got there at 1:30pm and they said they have 300 people and no outdoor restrooms, so they are turning people away that did not have tickets. Bad Business - Bad Attitude- Bad Planning- how utterly unprofessional. I saw so many cars after me that had to turn around and leave. Simply NO excuse!

Darn, sorry but literally every seat and table was already taken by the time you arrived as a ‘walk up’ group. We have had that happen ourselves at restaurants and shows that end up being unexpectedly sold out. While we were gratified to have a bigger crowd than we expected, we know that people come a long way out to our country location, and want to share our wines and vibe with everyone when possible. We offered and recommended advance reservations through our website for this, always popular, event with walk ins on a ‘space available basis’ – and our site specifically encourages you to make reservations for whenever you come out, especially for Saturdays in the summer and fall, since our capacity is, of course, limited. With a long streak of five-star reviews, we're confident you'll have a great time at DuCard, and will certainly be treated in a warm, professional and great attitude way. Please email Beth @ ducardvineyards dot com and I’d like to send you a coupon to come out for a complimentary wine tasting on me. Thanks, Scott (owner, DuCard) Again, sorry it didn't work out for this.

If I could describe a perfect afternoon- hike at white oak canyon, get a smoked ham sandwich at Graves mountain deli and head to DuCard. If Cora is working then even better! In a time when many wineries have stopped giving descriptions of wines and the vineyard and just handed you a flight and a piece of paper, DuCard has not followed that example. (Yes!!!) Cora explained our flights, talked about the vineyard, the winemaker and she was an a absolute gem. Beautiful scenery, great wine and amazing staff. I can’t say enough about this vineyard.

We're 'old school' about customer service, and like to share information, stories, conversation and more to enrich your experience when visiting our special corner of the world. Thanks on behalf of Cora and all our great staff. We look forward to hosing you again soon.

Ducard winery is very popular, enjoyed dry white wines flight. Great staff who clarified they do not produce organic wine as listed on top organic va wineries. A green winery . Beautiful scenery. firepits wood provided free. Very relaxing atmosphere

Thanks for visiting. To clarify, the Virginia Green Travel site you accessed refers to sustainability and environmental leadership, and DuCard is widely recognized for that. It does not refer to organic status. I don't believe there are any VA wineries that are truly certified organic - due to weather and insect challenges in VA climate, as staff shared with you. Glad you liked our wines and vibe and look forward to hosting you again.

We didn't think this was hard to find, just followed GPS. But had no Wifi once there, and no directions to get out of there, so needed to ask someone how to get to Madison. This place is so worth it! The day we went the weather was perfect so we sat outside by the stream, over looking the rolling hills. Thoroughly enjoyed the wine tasting, but the very best was the Governor's Choice, which they gave us free samples of. Wonderful! Friendly server, beautiful view!

We spent a leisure afternoon there at the vineyard. Picturesque surrounding and friendly staff made the day very enjoyable! We tried the tasting of both red and white wines... ended up buying a few bottles for friends and ourselves. Highly recommended if you are in the area or passing by!

We visited Ducard Vineyard this past weekend for our 44th wedding anniversary. We thoroughly enjoyed sitting outside on a perfect Saturday afternoon at a beautiful vineyard, listening to live music, and sipping on excellent wine. We have not been here since 2019 due to COVID and a very sick dog. The Vineyard has a lovely indoor tasting area and has expanded its outdoor seating to accommodate a number of people very comfortably since we were here last. The wines are even better than before. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable about their products. This is the perfect place to relax. We hope to go back again soon. Two thumbs up!

Loved visiting DuCard! The setting is perfect for social distancing with tables spread far apart on the lawn. The view is amazing! We enjoyed a fight of wine and learned about the winery from the owner, Scott. The wine was delicious! Had to take a couple bottles home! Highly recommend for anyone wanting to take in the fall colors while enjoying a glass of Virginia wine.

Outstanding wines! After we hiked Old Rag, the winery being a short drive from the trailhead, my wife and I ventured there. We each tried their flight of wines and found them all very, very good. I was especially fond of their Norton, a grape first cultivated in Virgina. An added plus was spending time with the owner!

Congratulations on Old Rag ascent - it's great iconic hike right around the corner. And how convenient to come celebrate afterward at DuCard. Glad you enjoyed the wines and the vibe and look forward to seeing you again soon, with or without a hike that day.

My wife and I found a gem, and as their owner Scott says, our Cheers. Great location nestled in the valley of the Blue Ridge Mountains, near Old Rag. A blend of nice outdoor spaces and a more modern interior. This is truly a place where everyone knows your name. Plus, the wine is fantastic and the live music on the weekends is, in itself, a reason to come.

The wine tasting quickly soured when Rick, the pourer, knocked over a bottle of red wine spilling it all over my just-purchased white linen pants. Rick and Scott Elliff, Proprietor, stood there offering no recompense and clearly waiting for me to just walk away. There are a lot of good vineyards in Charlottesville area - skip this one and support people & companies who choose to do the right thing.

We apologize again here, for the third time, for an unfortunate accident in a crowded room. The comments made above are incorrect and do not represent our response at the time, which is detailed below and include multiple, active efforts to ‘make it right.’ What we did (you be the judge) 1. Scott, standing nearby with the husband, immediately apologized to her upon seeing the spill. We think Rick was bumped by someone near our table, but that doesn't really matter here. 2. We closed down our tasting area while we checked with all other wineries and others in room to see if anyone had brought any "Wine Away" spray which works well in these situations (regrettably no), 3. Scott gave his card to the husband with apologies and a written offer to pick up their tab at a visit to our winery. 4. Other customers subsequently told us they were sorry to hear that the woman was making a loud and indignant scene with the organizers of the event - and upon hearing this Scott went to look for the couple to apologize again and ask if there was something further that they felt we should do - but they had left the building. We agree that service and attitude are critical, and our actions reflected that, as they do with all our guests at our winery or at challenging offsite events like this.
