About
In times of stress and uncertainty, a bottle of wine can provide some peace and relaxation for body, mind and spirit. Open daily with strict health and safety protocols. Currently featuring full service "flights" - a generous selection of wines, in crystal glassware, served at your table, by a knowledgeable team member who will describe the wines, answer your questions, share some local stories, and chat with you during your visit: a great personal experience. DuCard is a gorgeous boutique vineyard and winery at the edge of the Shenandoah National Park, named Virginia's Greenest Winery, with great wines and personal service in a relaxing location. Authenticity: more and more, wineries buy grapes from others, or even contract out wine-making to someone else. Not us: 96% of our fruit comes from the three local sites that we actively farm, and all the wines are made on-site, by us. Terroir - or sense of place - is what many look for. You'll find it at DuCard

Poor event planning!
Sep 2021
This place advertised for a big seafood event yesterday. The website and the person I spoke to say we can get tickets at the door. We drove a couple of hours to attend only to get turned away! They opened at 12pm and we got there at 1:30pm and they said they have 300 people and no outdoor restrooms, so they are turning people away that did not have tickets. Bad Business - Bad Attitude- Bad Planning- how utterly unprofessional. I saw so many cars after me that had to turn around and leave. Simply NO excuse!

Darn, sorry but literally every seat and table was already taken by the time you arrived as a ‘walk up’ group. We have had that happen ourselves at restaurants and shows that end up being unexpectedly sold out. While we were gratified to have a bigger crowd than we expected, we know that people come a long way out to our country location, and want to share our wines and vibe with everyone when possible. We offered and recommended advance reservations through our website for this, always popular, event with walk ins on a ‘space available basis’ – and our site specifically encourages you to make reservations for whenever you come out, especially for Saturdays in the summer and fall, since our capacity is, of course, limited. With a long streak of five-star reviews, we're confident you'll have a great time at DuCard, and will certainly be treated in a warm, professional and great attitude way. Please email Beth @ ducardvineyards dot com and I’d like to send you a coupon to come out for a complimentary wine tasting on me. Thanks, Scott (owner, DuCard) Again, sorry it didn't work out for this.

Delicious wine in a beautiful area

Incredible wine against the gorgeous backdrop of the Shenandoah Mountains. My server, Rick, explained each wine to me and was extremely warm and kind. An incredible experience and I love that it was dog friendly!

Don't Miss It!
Apr 2021
We didn't think this was hard to find, just followed GPS. But had no Wifi once there, and no directions to get out of there, so needed to ask someone how to get to Madison. This place is so worth it! The day we went the weather was perfect so we sat outside by the stream, over looking the rolling hills. Thoroughly enjoyed the wine tasting, but the very best was the Governor's Choice, which they gave us free samples of. Wonderful! Friendly server, beautiful view!

A definite must
Apr 2021 • Couples
Came to this small winery while staying at a lodge nearby. Super friendly staff and Beth was outstanding. She explained the wines and we did a flight. Excellent space seating outside and they have heaters and a tent. The 2nd Saturday of each month they have a band from 6-9. And a food truck..You can’t buy a glass during this time, it’s only a flight or a bottle which wasn’t a problem for us since the wine is excellent.....and cork the bottle and take it with you if you don’t finish it. It’s definitely off the beaten path but well worth the trip.

Thanks for visiting. As you noted, at DuCard "flights" mean a selection of wines, served at your table, in crystal glassware, by a knowlegeable team member who will describe the wines to you, answer questions, and chat with you during your visit. We think this is an elegant, full service way to introduce you to own lines. Cheers, Scott

Awesome and safe vineyard experience!
Dec 2020
What a great experience! DuCard is tucked into the Shenandoahs, so they have a beautiful view. Vineyard is easy to find and has plenty of parking. Lots of space to socially distance and enjoy. Masks required when not eating or drinking and they require all patrons to wash their hands at a hand-wash station before entering. They have a tented area with live music on certain nights and now that it's getting cooler they also have small fire pits. Wines were great and the service was incredible! Will absolutely be back again.

Thanks for your notes. We will remain super diligent regarding sanitation and safety, even as good weather comes around, and encourage reservations so we can manage spacing etc. And PS we have live music Friday nights now, as well as Saturday afternoons. Look forward to hosting you again,

Beautiful place for enjoying wine!
Oct 2020 • Friends
Loved visiting DuCard! The setting is perfect for social distancing with tables spread far apart on the lawn. The view is amazing! We enjoyed a fight of wine and learned about the winery from the owner, Scott. The wine was delicious! Had to take a couple bottles home! Highly recommend for anyone wanting to take in the fall colors while enjoying a glass of Virginia wine.

Fabulous wine at the base of the mountains in Madison County
Oct 2020
We visited this vineyard in Sept 2014 and loved it. I'm sorry it took us 6 years to get back there because our recent visits in July and October were outstanding. There is plenty of outdoor seating to social distance (which they are serious about). It was a perfect place to enjoy both their whites (Viognier and Chardonnay) when it was 90 degrees in July and their reds (we did a flight of their Bourdeaux blends, Merlot and Norton) in October. Every wine we tasted was excellent, the Bourdeaux blends the best I've ever tasted in Virginia. The French wine maker has been at this vineyard for 13 years and you can tell he brought a lot of knowledge from France with him. The vineyard is intimate and tucked away in a hollow very near the trail heads for hiking White Oak Canyon or staying at Graves Mountain Lodge. Truly a gem.

thanks, but hey, less than six years next time, eh, How about six weeks ? PS the Triskele 2017 Bordeaux blend was just awarded VA gold medal, so others agree with you about it.

Great Cab Franc
Oct 2020 • Couples
Hard to find but so worth the beautiful drive! Magnificent scenery. Cab franc was very good.
Can not beat a good glass of wine by a babbling brook looking at the changing leaves!

New favorite Virginia Winery
Nov 2019 • Couples
We had a wonderful time after visiting Shenandoah, and this was a perfect spot to visit afterwards. Sprawling views and a picturesque setting makes this one of my favorite wineries. I didn't love the charcuterie but I'm glad I gave it a try. I fell in love with the dessert board (perfection!) and thoroughly enjoyed our wine flights. We will definitely return for more port and Curvee. We definitely will bring home more of the Petit Verdot and Norton. And the wine-filled chocolates!

Thanks to Beth and Cora (especially) for a wonderful experience

Thanks for coming out. Our new Petit Verdot vintage again won a Gold Medal in the prestigious Governor's Cup. Match 2020 update: open daily for the kind of getaway you mention, bottle sales plus wine to go. We also ship nationwide. Stay well..
