About
RdV Vineyards is nestled in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains, in the historic town of Delaplane. Thomas Jefferson, a native of Virginia and founding father of our nation, was also a "man of the soil," an avid viticulturist who dreamed of creating a "great American wine based on a French model." Today, Jefferson's vision is a reality at RdV. Bordeaux grapes, planted on a granite hillside, producing wines that marry the elegance of Bordeaux with the bold spirit of California. RdV Vineyards is open to the public for Tours & Tastings at 11am, 1pm and 3pm, Thursday through Sunday. To reserve a Tour & Tasting with us, you may do so through our website or by contacting us at the winery. RdV wines are available for purchase at the winery, and through our online store with the option to pick up or ship. If you have any further questions about visiting us or our Ambassador Membership Program, please feel free to contact us. We hope that you enjoy our wines!

Excellent, But Pricey
Oct 2021 • Couples
RdV Vineyards makes world class wine but can be visited by appointment only. And it’s rather pricey. It was $120 per person plus tax and gratuity for the tour and tasting. You get to taste an excellent Champagne, a second growth classified Bordeaux, their flagship wine called Lost Mountain, and a California Cabernet Sauvignon along with an excellent selection of meats and cheeses. The winery itself it just gorgeous. This year, there was no wine available for purchase because 2017 is sold out and 2018 was a limited production vintage. They only make 2,500 cases in total. Sonia it worth it? It depends on your wallet and your palate. Is their wine “world class”? In my opinion, yes it is. Karl, an Advanced Sommelier, led our tasting and even got us an appointment at another local winery which was very nice.

First wine tour ever and it did not disappoint. Friendly staff. Beautiful surroundings. Loved the wine tastings and finger foods.

Going through the motions

Our second visit. Got a perfunctory tour compared to our first several years ago, and they had none of their wine for sale. The wines are world class, albeit over priced. Very disappointed this time.

Such a relaxing and upscale experience

Our son gave us a gift certificate to go tour this winery. I couldn’t say enough nice things about it! The facility is impeccable. The wine tasting that started out with Don Perignon champagne was impressive. The charcuterie that was served with the wines were yummy!! Enjoyed every bit of the tour and the tasting!

I’m impressed
Aug 2020 • Couples
As someone who has traveled to a number of wine regions including Napa, Sonoma and Burgundy, I was not expecting to be impressed.... I was wrong, this wine can compete as a world class wine. Even given the Covid restrictions, it was an interesting tour. ( I liked the exhibit on the soil). The tasting was well structured and the charcuterie plate was tasty. And yes, any experience that starts with a glass of Dom Perignon ( we were in Epernay last year), can’t be bad.

Best in the East

Best reds on the east coast, by far! Awesome property and great staff. Have sampled most wineries in the region and RdV is in a league of its own.

Outstanding winery in Northern Virginia.

Wonderful wine tasting. Nice tour of a lovely facility. Despite very hot temperatures outside it was a cool and comfortable tasting. Nice touch with Dom Perignon to start, good pairing of meats and cheeses, and two of the most impressive reds in Virginia.

Informative tour and great tasting of lovely wines!
Sep 2019
While this tour/tasting is pricey, I appreciate that they are pouring some fantastic wines in a more intimate setting. The charcuterie board is also quite impressive with a few meat offerings, garlic sausage, foie gras, duck rillette, grain mustard, bread, salt/pepper and two types of cheeses.

The wine pour is a fair sample that lets you try it more than once, so that you can fully appreciate the wine. We tried a 2014, 2015, and 2016 Rendezvous and a Lost Mountain. The Lost Mountain is only available if you join the wine club, so that was rather disappointing. Still, I appreciated the opportunity to taste it. I also liked the "on your own" tasting rather than having someone constantly talk at me.

No doubt, these are some of the best wines that you will find in Virginia. However, there are some really fantastic wines that I can buy in this price range from a top-notch distributor/retailer. Still, we walked away with 2 bottles and will probably be back. Sage, the dog, was an extra treat!

A Great Afternoon Tasting
Aug 2019
Three for a weekend tasting on a gorgeous late summer day. The setting is very pretty, with views of the surrounding Blue Ridge and Bull Run Mountains. We were greeted by Karl, the new head hospitality honcho. Karl came from Jose Andres' Minibar and has the sort of infectious enthusiasm that you might expect from someone who was working with Chef Andres.

The tasting started with a wee bit of the house rose. That's a relatively new touch. RdV's rose is produced in limited quantities for the Ambassadors. From there, Karl set out a vertical of Rendezvous (2014-2016), along with the 2015 Lost Mountain. This gives the taster a chance to see how Rendezvous differs from one year to the next, as the proportions of the grape varieties differ. (We preferred the 2014 and 2016 over the 2015, likely due to the higher percentage of Cab Franc.) It also gives you the ability to compare Rendezvous to Lost Mountain fromt he same 2015 vintage. The Lost Mountain, with a higher ratio of Cabernet Sauvignon to Merlot, is tighter and more focused - a little less approachable now, but clearly one that will have a longer life in the cellar.

The vineyard was in full bloom, with grapes getting close to harvest time. All in all, it's a magical setting, and the great care and work that go into producing a world-class wine are evident at every turn.

Wonderful afternoon at RdV. Tour was wonderful and gave one a terrific appreciation of the work that goes into producing a fine wine. Wine that followed was excellent. Compares well with some of the fine California and French wines we usually drink.
