I was worried that the fact we could only view from the overlook and not up close would mean it wasn't a great view, but it actually was a great view! I was not disappointed. In fact, we visited 3 times during our stay at the nearby Omni Homestead. I even brought my tripod and we took slow shutter speed photos as well as photos of us together in front of the falls. This is such a nice place to visit and anyone passing through the area should make the stop. They added picnic tables to the parking lot so you can stay awhile too (though there is no view from the parking lot). Out of the three times we went, one time was fairly crowded (middle of the day), second time there was only one other group there (close to sunset), and the third time we were the only ones (close to sunset the next day).

Beautiful waterfall. We were 'clued-in' to this waterfall by our inkeepers the previous night. If you drive too fast, you may miss it. Worth stopping, about 1/4 mile past Rt.640 going South on Rt 220.

Stunning waterfall, simply put. Drive will wind up a mountain (expect curves). Has parking area, very short paved walk to the Falls. Easy-to-access from Evergreen Inn, the Homestead, and the City of Covington. Consider connecting your visit with a stop on the Jackson River Scenic Trail. Free to visit. Picnic tables available at parking area (outside direct view of falls but nicely shaded). Also a short drive from another overlook to enjoy the mountain views.

It is a small but beautiful location hidden in the mountains of Virginia. It is only viewable from the road. It is near the Virginia/West Virginia border not far off of Rte.64. They have the area surrounding the falls to prevent people from falling. But it is a very picturesque location.

This is a side of the road free attraction....formerly 200 feet high industrial mining site with an electriv generating station in early 1900's. Now reverted back to impressive 80' waterfalls. There are several picnic tables nearby; fences and signs prohibit falls access -- slippery rocks at falls are dangerous.

Beautiful waterfall....right along the highway. We stopped in July 2021. There is a small parking area with picnic tables. Short stroll to view the falls. Area above the falls is completely fenced off now. (Last time we visited despite signs folks were swimming below the falls. I suppose the fence is intended to prevent these sorts of adventures.) Very lovely spot for a quick stop.

This waterfall was so beautiful, I cannot beleave the history and what it would have looked loke before it was damaged. There is a small parking lot so you do not have to park right on the road. But then you have to walk beside the road to see it.

First visit. Coming from Covington the road is crooked and up a tall mountain. The lookout is right off the main road. Small amount of parking. Less than 3 minute walk from parking to lookout. Couple picnic tables.

I took a few of my friends here for a day of fun and it seriously did not disappoint. The first swimming hole at the top of the waterfall is less than a 2 minute walk from the (very small) parking lot. It's got 2 rope swings and a very slippery log you can jump off into about 6.5 feet of water. If you follow the path down to the bottom, I would suggest good gripped shoes because it's a bit of a steep climb down. But not a hard climb at all. Took about 5 minutes to get down and about 7 to come back up. Totally worth it. There are a few swimming holes at the bottom, but not as deep as the one on top. Also be aware there is a sign that says no trespassing, but everyone does it.

Traveling West on I-64 through Virginia, get off at the Covington, VA Exit 16B (US-60/220). Turn left at traffic signal and follow US-60/220 to their split and continue right on US-220. You'll travel up a mountain road for approximately 10 miles and as you start to descend down the other side, watch for a large parking lot on your left. This is the Falling Spring Overlook. Walking along sidewalk of the retaining wall, you can view this magnificent display. Continuing in the same direction on US-220 will bring you to the Historic Omni Homestead Resort in Hot Springs, VA.

Is the hiking trail no longer accessible or only closed due to covid? I'm willing to find the right people to get access $$

I've read that they added signs and you are not allowed to swim or hike down anymore?

"Techincally" now no, But everyone from 3 to 65 can be seen swinging a leg over and climbing on down. I haven't seen it being enforced at all. I'd say proceed at your own discretion. 😉
Are there any outdoor hot spring/swimming holes near Falling Springs, Va?

Yes! Jefferson Pools, the BEST natural warm springs! In Warm Springs, VA, about 20 minutes north of the falls and 5 miles north of Hot Springs where the Homestead Resort is. At the NW corner of the intersection of 220 and 39. Open, Currently from 10 -6, call, this changes. 10-1pm is Co-ed, 1-6pm gender segregation (two bath houses, one built in 1761). Very rustic, very cool! Waters warm... private changing rooms and toilets, no showers. They supply a towel, $17/hour. Very relaxing, they have noodles, no swimming. Gender specific time suits are optional. No suits sold there. Have a blissful visit!

Where exactly do you park? Any hotels in the area? Kid friendly swimming holes?

The parking is right along the side of the road. small but limited. You can walk to the roadside to take some great pictures. Would assume the falls look fantastic in the fall. We stayed at the Low Moor Inn in Low Moor. We did not walk to the bottom but there were some young adults enjoying the falls at its base.
