We reserved one single kayak and one tandem kayak for my husband and I and our 4 year old. When we arrived we realized we would be able to fit our 4 year old between us on the tandem kayak and they added the kiddie seat for us in the middle and refunded the cost of the unused single kayak with no hassle. We purchased a waterproof pouch for our cell phones and a net for our son which I expected would be overpriced but the prices were actually very reasonable. We headed north and were lucky enough to spot wild horses within less than 10 minutes along the shore. The 2 hour rental was the perfect amount of time for us, just enough of an adventure and then we hung out on the beach to swim and play in the water afterward before heading home. I would definitely rent from this group again in the future. Very satisfied.

First time to the island (or seashore). Rented two kayaks for 2 hours. A bit more expensive than most places I've rented from but understandable as they are the only concession there. The kayaks were clean and comfortable. Saw horses within minutes. We enjoyed our paddle trip very much. One thing to keep in mind is that they do not let you pay at the booth - you have to make reservations on line and, at least for T-mobile and ATT customers- you will not have phone service once you are on the island.

We booked bicycles for the 2 hour trip and it was awesome having the horses running around while we biked. Two days later we booked a guided kayak tour for 3 hours. We try to always book some type of tour like this when we go on vacation and we were blown away by our tour guide. His name is Anthony and he was fun, kind, incredibly knowledgeable about both the history of Assateague and the ecosystem, and was the best tour guide we have ever had on any tour. Highly recommend this trip!!

Anthony certainly has been an amazing addition to our team this year. Sounds like you got the best of land and sea!

We rented kayaks from Assateague outfitters with another couple. It turns out the weather was not good on Saturday so we decided to go on Sunday instead. Because the other couple had a conflict they could not attend on Sunday. Assateague Outfitters was very understanding and refunded their kayak fees. They also adjusted our fees from a full day to half day because of the weather. It was very much appreciated. Additionally the staff was extremely friendly and helpful. We had a great day and are already talking about going back again.

My adult daughter and I took her three kids kayaking and SUPing with Assateague Outfitters. I reserved out SUPs and kayaks ahead of time and everything was ready to go when we got there. Our group was a mix of experienced kayakers/SUPers and inexperienced. They gave us quick lessons and helped us launch. They also gave really good guidance on best places to explore given the wind that day. We had a great time. If you want to kayak or SUP or rent a canoe, I highly recommend Assateague Outfitters. During the summer you might want to consider getting into the park early because it gets really crowded and the wait to get in through the gates is really long. Hats are also really helpful - it was hot and sunny but no bugs out on the water.

Wife and I booked this as the end of our OC Maryland vacation experience, and we were not disappointed. Jake did a great job of keeping the young ones and the adults in our group engaged, and we saw not only horses up close totally out in the wild but also waterfowl (& maybe a bald eagle) and the water ecosystem that this area supports. Will recommend this to all willing to listen; thanks again!

My two sons and I rented bikes to ride the paved portion of Assateague Park. We rented from the bike shop which shares the parking lot with the Assateague Visitors Center right before the Verrazano Bridge/Causeway to Assateague. The Visitors center has decent public bathrooms and you can purchase bottled water at the bike shop. The bikes cost $20 each for two hours and came with baskets in front and a loaner helmet for one of my sons. The bikes we got were fine and in reasonably good shape with no gears to shift. They were equipped with coaster brakes as opposed to hand brakes. The bike trail starts right at the door of the bike shop and there is a dedicated bike path that is completely separate from the causeway's car traffic. Bikers are allowed onto Assateague with no entrance fee. We stayed on the bike path as long as it was paved, which was just over 4 miles ending at a sandy footpath trail. We were lucky and saw two ponies grazing right at the side of the road as we biked, then when we turned back to return to the bike shop we saw at least ten more. Some were on the park's road itself (or crossing it) and held up traffic. Even though we started biking about 9:15am (the shop opens at 9), it was a bit hot as there is very little shade along the way. Bring sun screen or use it before you bike. Also, the mosquitos were a bit aggressive that day which kept us on our way and moving faster than they could fly. We did the round trip in about 80 minutes. Nice time.

We took a guided tour in Oct 2020 with Justin and one other couple. The paddling was moderate to easy- some small waves and wind at the beginning, then calm waters in the marsh. We saw ponies, birds, jumping fish, alas no turtles. Justin was happy to answer questions and told great stories about the horses. This company takes safety seriously- they cancelled the tour the day before because of high winds, losing ticket sales. Getting into the park was easy at 9:30 AM but very backed up on leaving at 2:30. I only got my feet wet when getting out of the kayak!

We saw so much on our tour! From a horseshoe crab to horses, we learned all about the wildlife on the island and some of its history. Chris was a great, friendly tour guide and knew a lot about the islands. The location was also fantastic and convenient for parking, but we did notice it was super crowded upon returning so I recommend an early tour time. Overall great time!

We agree that the morning is the best time to get out. It’s less crowded and there’s more wildlife to see. Thanks for taking time to write a review!

We rented two bikes to do the Park Ranger Tour (offered by Assateague National Seashore). After the bike tour, our group ended up browsing their merchandise and bought some Assateague-themed shirts, sweatshirts, and a silicone wine glass (as well as some yummy ice cream treats). Helmets were provided in the bike rental, and they did have kid bikes and pull-behind child carriers / trailers for smaller kids as well. The man who rented us our bikes was absolutely hilarious and had us laughing the whole time we were there. Thanks for a great experience!!
