Captain Barry'sBack Bay Cruise is an INTERACTIVE skill building experience....

Captain Barry'sBack Bay Cruise is an INTERACTIVE skill building experience. We are a floating classroom, a research vessel with HANDS-ON FEET-WET lessons. One of the many things we do is get off the boat on the sandbars to go DIG IN THE MUD FOR CLAMS. Maybe we can catch some to eat. Then it's back on the boat to cruise to a crabbing spot where you will Pull CRAB-POTS on board to identify and see the days catch. If you have the courage I will teach you how to HOLD A CRAB without getting pinched. Navigating our way to Shell Island Beach, we stop and get off the boat for some SHELL COLLECTING than back on the boat for Capt. Barry's favorite activity... hunting for jellyfish. we will then HAUL in the trawler net and will see that it is full of Marine life and sea creatures.... this is always a challenge! Time to slow the boat down to enter the shallow waters.... how many birds can you identify? we use all of our senses-SOUND,TOUCH,TASTE and SMELL- to make our cruises informative and fun. They are is never any pressure always lots of fun.. you can relax, sit back on the boat and be the official photographer, or you can get into it. This is the real deal to get your hands dirty and feet wet so you will experience the life of a Chincoteague Waterman.

Captain Barry is awesome! He loves kids, and is all about teaching them! We learned so much about the marsh areas that we would have never learned if not for going with Capt Barry! Our kids are ages 6,8,and 10. They loved it and we will do it again when we visit Assateague!

Captain Barry is fun and very knowledgeable about the area. I went on the cruise with my husband and we had fun. As a teacher and a parent this is a must do for any family with children--big or small. Thanks for a great time Captain Barry!

We wanted to take a boat ride at Chincoteague and initially wanted to take the pony viewing ride. We ended up seeing several ponies on the way to the beach, so decided to do this trip instead. Captain Barry does not focus on simply driving around looking for ponies and pointing out the sites (his trips do not even look... More

Chose this tour as a default after others were booked. Our good luck! Captain Barry is a super guy with a huge personality and knows what he is talking about. You won't see ponies on this tour, but you won't care. You will get your feet wet and learn some really cool stuff! Have lunch at Jackspots next door!

This is an immersion adventure! My 3yo and 1yo boys loved exploring with their feet in the mud. So did I. We found sponges, fiddler crabs, fish, birds, hermit crabs, sea snails and a giant horseshoe crab within the first 20 minutes! Then we collected some seashells, found and ate some raw oysters, and pulled up a crab trap. We... More

I really can't add more to what the other reviewers have said because Captain Barry is well worth the trip. We have been visiting Chincoteague for years and never considered a "tourist" boat ride, but this is not a typical "see the ponies" tour. Actually, it's not a tour at all but rather one of the most fun educational trips... More

Captain Barry's tour is fun & excitement for all ages. My 2 grand-daughters aged 5 & 8 loved the hands-on tour and enjoyed being the "mates". The deserted island walk was great for discovering crabs, snails and birds; the wet sand felt great to walk around barefoot. The girls hauled in crabs and learned how to net fish. We loved... More

Captain Barry is part Pirate, part oceanographer, and part historian! Our 6 year olds loved it. And so did I! The scenery is awesome, as is the interactions with nature. We saw blue crabs, fiddler crabs, oysters, clams, snails, and a ton of birds.

We had a wonderful experience on our Back Bay Cruise! Everone learned something new, even Captain Barry! He is a great teacher, and makes it fun for the kids and grownups as well! He is so much fun, and made it so enjoyable! It is interactive, so he had our 12 year old take the roll of crew member! You... More
