Captain Barry'sBack Bay Cruise is an INTERACTIVE skill building experience....

Captain Barry'sBack Bay Cruise is an INTERACTIVE skill building experience. We are a floating classroom, a research vessel with HANDS-ON FEET-WET lessons. One of the many things we do is get off the boat on the sandbars to go DIG IN THE MUD FOR CLAMS. Maybe we can catch some to eat. Then it's back on the boat to cruise to a crabbing spot where you will Pull CRAB-POTS on board to identify and see the days catch. If you have the courage I will teach you how to HOLD A CRAB without getting pinched. Navigating our way to Shell Island Beach, we stop and get off the boat for some SHELL COLLECTING than back on the boat for Capt. Barry's favorite activity... hunting for jellyfish. we will then HAUL in the trawler net and will see that it is full of Marine life and sea creatures.... this is always a challenge! Time to slow the boat down to enter the shallow waters.... how many birds can you identify? we use all of our senses-SOUND,TOUCH,TASTE and SMELL- to make our cruises informative and fun. They are is never any pressure always lots of fun.. you can relax, sit back on the boat and be the official photographer, or you can get into it. This is the real deal to get your hands dirty and feet wet so you will experience the life of a Chincoteague Waterman.

I work for an environmental organization that takes out about 40 000 kids a year to learn about the nearby Chesapeake Bay. Therefore, when we decided to take a trip with Captain Barry i wasn't expecting too much but i have to say, he was fantastic. On a cold, blustery day, my wife, our 4 year old and I had... More

My kids (ages 10 & 12)wanted to give Captain Barry ten stars they had such a great time! As a parent, I liked that it was a hands on boat tour in which we all learned something about the bay. Captain Barry was very entertaining and you could tell he loved giving the kids great memories of Chincoteague! We will... More

This tour really is for younger kids and their parents, who will delight in the hands-on experience of touching baylife and learning about and interacting with the bay creatures. Captain Barry keeps it fun and moving quickly. We enjoyed the group we were with, too. Capt. Barry had us doing activities the whole time, some more interesting than others. First... More

Captain Barry's special. We've been three times, and my kids talk about Captain Barry like he's Santa Claus. They love him and the tour. We'll go back to Chincoteague for lots of reasons...but none more so than Captain Barry's BackBay Cruises.

We loved our cruise with Capt Barry. He was a wealth of knowledge on the island of Chincoteague and a never ending fount of patience with our small children aged 4, 3, and 10 months. Everyone walked away with a smile and a story to tell. Definitely book a trip with Barry.

Do not miss a cruise with the entertaining and knowledgeable Capt. Barry. We booked the sunset champagne cruise for a return visit. He did not disappoint us and we will definitely book him again on our next vacation.

We brought our 2 kids (ages 7 and 3) on this fantastic two-hour, hands-on experience. Captain Barry immediately takes over and made sure to keep the parents out of the way while he interacted with the kids during the entire trip. We learned about the history of the island, went to a couple of smaller islands to explore sea life,... More

We've been going out with Captain Barry for going on 7 years now. Each trip is a new adventure - always something new to see in and on the water. Today we saw his experiments with cultivating a new type of oyster, pulled up two types of puffer fish in a crab trap and spied a gull eating a dead... More

We had a great time today with Captain Barry! He is great with children and about as layed Back as can be. The trip started out with Capt'n Barry telling my granddaughter there are no rules. We then visited many locations in the bay and had hands on with Fish, crabs, jelly fish, and lots more. You can't lose Captian... More
