Excellent History and view of the area

Well worth the time and effort. Also great to bring bikes and rides through the 6-7 miles of trails.

Well worth the time (2 hours) and money ($12.50/adult; $6.50/child). You can call to buy tickets, and then show up 30 minutes early at the Bateman Visitor Center to pick up your tickets and board the bus. The kids get a little wild onboard the bus (understandably), as do some of the adults. Good views on both sides of the... More

This tour goes 7 1/2 miles through areas not accessible by car. It's also probably your best shot at seeing the wild ponies close up on the wildlife refuge. On our tour ponies blocked our bus, and we sat on the road for 15 minutes waiting for them to move. Nobody complained about them coming to us. The bus is... More

This tour takes you into non-accessible areas of the park where wildlife congregate. Our guide Jody, was terrific at spotting wildlife and identifying them for us. She was friendly, enthusiastic, and although she probably does this tour hundreds of times, she sounded like a friend sharing an exciting adventure rather than a bored tour guide. On our bus tour in... More

This was an awesome part of our trip to the island. The price was reasonable. Please note you do NOT get off and on the bus but the driver goes out of their way to make sure you can get pictures of the wildlife. The drivers are also well informed about the area, the wildlife, history, etc. It's a great... More

We have taken this tour at least 4 times previously, each time we enjoy seeing the ponies close up. The bus is nice an clean, the tour guide was very informative and knowledgeable. Only drawback was the other tourists, from the time we got on grown adults had sprawled their belongings all over the bus to save seats for their... More

My husband and I both took the tour for the first time. We saw quite a few ponies and a few birds. Some of the ponies were in the distance and some were even right next to the bus! Things to know: The tour was $12.50 per adult The tour is 2 hours long You aren't allowed to leave the... More

My 11 year old daughter and I did a get-away weekend in Chincoteague. We stayed at a lovely, clean, mid range hotel on Main St. There was a great mid range restaurant within walking distance. We saw more wildlife during our visit than we have ever seen at home. We took the Park Service bus your of the preserve and... More

If you are interested in the refuge (especially if you are there for the first time) this is a great way to see the refuge and learn about what is there. We had several close up views of the ponies, the tour guide was great at answering questions, the bus was comfortable. It is worth the small fee and the... More

With all the positive reviews for this tour, I hardly feel it necessary to toss my own in.....but I will. Although you MAY walk a trail through much the same area the Wildlife Tour bus takes you, I couldn't walk it & my husband gets sea sick so no water tour options. That being said, we and our granddaughter thoroughly... More
