Long hot day, worth the wait

We went with Assateague Explorer for the 2016 Pony Swim on Wednesday, the return pony swim on Friday and a Sunset Cruise on Monday. The crew was knowledgeable of the area and we... read more

I booked a 2 1/2 hour kayaking tour to see the wild ponies. It took about 20 minutes of driving around and asking directions before we found our guide on a public boat ramp. There is no office, no boat slip, no pier, and the only communications were by cell phone. Our tour lasted an hour and 40 minutes and... More

Gail, our tour guide, was absolutely hysterical. Generally, if you're stuck on a boat for nearly two hours, you may want to jump off by the end. Gail was so informative and gave so much great information about the history of the island and the attractions. We saw a zillion dolphins and one herd of horses. I didn't bring binoculars... More

We went with Assateague Explorer for the 2016 Pony Swim on Wednesday, the return pony swim on Friday and a Sunset Cruise on Monday. The crew was knowledgeable of the area and we learned a lot. As we are talking about wild animals and the predictability of where they can be seen at any one given time and the ponies... More

We saw a few birds and a herd of horses that was very difficult to see because binoculars were needed. It was like trying to view horses against the Colorado Rocky Mountains. We did see one dolphin that jumped out of the water by our boat. The tour guide was very knowledgeable but you really don't get to see much... More

I took my 86 year old mother on the tour where the ponies swim back to Assateague after the Chincoteague Auction....The weather was perfect when apparently on the swim over (last Wednesday) it was hot at blazes and the horse flies were abundant! Can't control the weather obviously but if you want to see the horses swim and don't want... More

The company said to come early. We drove 1.5 hours and spent entire day on islands in anticipation of our sunset kayak tour. We saw the tour leaving twice throughout this hot 95 plus degree day. 8 minutes prior to our meeting time they called to cancel our tour. Then they tried to sell us a different boat tour. Allegedly... More

I have never given a negative review before but I must be honest, as well. The "historian" / first mate talked (no yelled) for the entire 1 1/2 hour boat trip. My ears were ringing and I had a headache when we arrived back to the dock. She did tell us some unknown facts, though. We saw a band of... More

I find this to be a tough review. On the one hand, the staff were friendly and eager to please. You're looking for wild animals, so of course they can't control what you do or do not see. We were in the same places as a few of the other tour companies, so it's not like those other customers saw... More

Fantastic tour! Capt. Dave and Marika(hope I spelled that correctly), were great guides. Very knowledgeable about the area. I went with my 13y/o daughter, there were small children and an older couple on board with us. Everyone seemed to enjoy the trip. We will definitely be back, but next time I think we will try the kayak tour to get... More

We took the kayak tour and it was truly fun and informative. Our family consisted of grandparents, parents, a five year old and an eight year old. Everyone laughed and enjoyed the whole excursion. Our guide was Steve and he was personable and informative. We learned a lot about the area and the locals. We "goootcha" Steve! We got to... More
