This is a nice little shop that has all kinds of candies and homemade fudge. They also carry jewelry, home decor items and souvenirs. We received a warm greeting when entering and the staff is extremely friendly and very helpful. A nice place to shop.

Always like going in here and looking around. They used to make the taffy there, which was fun to watch. They have excellent fudge and many household goods/trinkets for sale.

First, the taffy is good. Not fabulous, but good. However, the signs at the bins (all handwritten and some hard to read) were misleading, They indicate that candy is $6.95 per half pound (though some looked like it was the price for a pound and a half) and invites you to fill a bag. Maybe I'm dumb, but it sounded to me like a bag was a half pound (or pound and a half?) and was $6.95. Three bags came to over $80 and all the clerk kept repeating was that the sign says. I paid for it, but I was not and still am not happy. The lady right after me thought the same as I did and was rather upset over paying $50+ for hers. I do not recommend this place at all. They need to clarify their signage.

Worst place EVER!!!!!! Worst customer service. Horrible horrible horrible people. They treated my family like crap. They talked about my brother in front of us without knowing we were together. There were 14 of us and every single one of us agreed we would never come back.

This is a large candy/souvenir store. Their main draw seems to be the taffy, which is pretty good but not great. It's a tourist town and you're paying tourist prices. In general, we found better prices elsewhere.

My family and I went into pony tails today and everyone in my family was wearing masks. My mother who has a health issue was wearing her mask at the tip of her nose and her mouth and nostrils were covered. The lady (manager) confronts her and she said she needed a medical note (violation of ADA and HIPAA Laws). She then continued to harass my mother to a coworker and my sister stated if they are going to talk that they should come out of the back. All we asked for was the owners number and they refused to give it to us. So They called the cops and some lady (who said she was their the whole time, which see wasn't) came harassing my family with her camera. The police came and talked to the manager and The police were in agreement regarding with my mother on them violating HIPAA and ADA laws. The lady continued to film us as we pulled out of the parking lot.

After coming to pony tails taffy for the past 20 years, I will never step a foot in there again. They were very discriminatory and violated my mother's ADA AND HIPAA rights.

We were welcomed by a delightful smell in this shop. It’s a cute little souvenir shop in the front with the candy section (mostly by the pound) off to the side. The staff were not overly friendly, if at all, which was disappointing and confusing because they were teens working at a candy store (???). We bought a pound of fudge which set us back $15 which was fine because it was good fudge but we found it odd that there were no samples offered to us so that we could decide how to best spend that $15 on fudge.

Now this is all fine and dandy except there were signs EVERYWHERE telling us what to do and what not to do. That is my main disappointment with this place. Signs like “do not try unless you’re planning to buy” on some cheap gadgets and “don’t tap on the glass” at the fudge station and “do not leave children unattended” at the penny presser. By far the oddest rule was “only the person paying may stand at the register.” This particular sign states that any others must stand and wait by the penny presser (though, if you recall, children may not be unattended there).

The entire time I was there I felt like a kindergartener who wasn’t particularly welcome in this CANDY STORE. I get it, you want to keep your store and your things nice but geez loosen up. Such an uncomfortable “don’t touch anything or step there there or there” experience.

This is the sixth visit to Chincoteague, so sixth year visiting pony tails. And will be the LAST. It has not gone down hill... more like down a mountainside!

We visited about 30 mins before close- and was greeted rudely by a mid-50s cashier. The cashier must of had a bad day. She was passive aggressive, unwelcoming and flat out mean. Instead of helping us, she was busy yelling across the store to a younger cashier about a fire somewhere on the island. A bit later, a little bottle was broken on the floor and she passively aggressively blamed my 10 year old daughter on “making a huge mess.” It was the size of quarter and was cleaned up with a paper towel. But she was nice enough to follow my wife and 10 year old daughter out of the door and watch us drive away.

As I am writing this, my wife is reading the Facebook posts- and surprise, other complaints about the same lady.

Thank you very much for bringing it to our attention that there are some issues that need to be handled at Pony Tails. We are a small family owned and operated business, and hearing experiences like this truly cuts to the core. I would appreciate it if we could communicate more about this happening so that we can correct any wrong doing. Please contact me at annabushnell@dolles.com. My sincerest apologies.

I have been visiting the island since the mid 70s and even owned a small business here for 12 years (an inn). At the inn, we often purchased and gave our customers boxes of taffy as a thank you gift so I’ve been a good customer of the store for decades. I have always loved Pony Tails however will likely not ever return after the experience we had in August. The business was sold several years ago and has been steadily going downhill since (getting less friendlier and more expensive). In the center or the store is a table with bulk candies re packaged into smaller containers for sale. The containers are stacked very high. My eight year old daughter accidentally knocked one off spilling it onto the floor. As she was cleaning it up, a young employee came by and told her that they were always falling down. Soon after that a middle aged women told my daughter that she needed to clean it up (she was already doing that) and that she needed to pay for it. So if the staff is aware that the items are always getting knocked down and the rule is you have to pay for it, is the plan that they place it where it’s easier for kids to knock down so they can sell it? We did pay for the spilled candy but left the basket with over $70 of merchandise that we were planning to buy with the cashier as we did not feel like giving our business to a store who’s employees were that rude to customers. The store has many signs telling what you can not do which seems not that friendly for a candy store. I get no one wants their stuff messed up but if you want to operate a successful business geared toward families, you ought to try to relax the rules a tad and be more family friendly and appreciative of your customers.
