In 1774, Thomas Jefferson, one of America's first wine connoisseurs, convinced Italian Philip Mazzei to establish a vineyard on our property. With the financial support of Thomas Jefferson, George Washington, Thomas Adams and other prominent colonists, the Virginia Wine Company was founded on present day Jefferson Vineyards. Today Jefferson Vineyards is a boutique, family owned winery. We have been creating nationally recognized, quality Virginia wines from classic varietals for over thirty four years, and are considered a pioneer of the Virginia wine industry. We are located between Monticello (home of Thomas Jefferson) and Ash Lawn (home of James Monroe). We open daily for tastings, from 11AM - 6PM. Tastings are $10 and include a souvenir wine glass. We offer mostly dry wines. Tours are not currently offered. We look forward to your visit.

My boyfriend and I went here for a casual Saturday afternoon wine tasting. The wines were ok--nothing really stood out as 'spectacular' or 'amazing' to me. None of the wines seemed to have a very strong flavor, which can be a good thing. It all really depends on your tastes. The grounds are beautiful with adirondack chairs for lounging or... More

Jefferson Vineyards had many good wines. I believe we tasted about 10 and the Meritage was one of my favorites. I recommend a stop if you're in the area!

I have been to this winery several times, as it is close to my home. I'll bring friends from out of town, or even local friends who have never been, to savor our local viticulture. Unfortunately, this last visit left much to be desired. My friend and I arrived on an early Friday afternoon. It wasn't a particularly busy day.... More

I love coming here. The viognier is an excellent wine and is one of my personal favorites. You can walk around the grounds and sit and overlook the mountains.

Very much enjoyed the wines at Jefferson Vineyards. The Rose', Petit Verdot & Meritage were my favorites. Beautiful mountain view, perfect place to sit & enjoy a glass of wine!

Ten dollars to taste ten wines. Great value as most of the wines are a good quality if you really like wine. For the whites, i enjoyed the Viognier 15. All the reds i tried, i enjoyed. We grabbed a glass each after and sat on the deck planning the next vineyard.

My husband and I decided to spend 4th of July weekend soaking up history and wine. Our first stop was Monticello . Afterwards we drove a short way down the road and found our 1st vineyard. Jefferson Vineyard employees were very friendly and really knowledgeable. The wines were quite good. We ended up buying 2 bottles to enjoy at home.

Even my wife loved it, who doesn't like wine. Beautiful place, interesting history, great staff. Wines are delicious, too.

Jefferson Vineyards offers not only delicious wines, but entertainment throughout summer and fall. Visit during Sunsets are Eclectic, drink, order food from a visiting food truck and behold the best sunset this side of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Bring lawn chairs, blanket and enjoy! Try their 2014 Meritage, or 2015 Viognier.
