When you consider the legacy and unique status of the University of Virginia, its art museum is a paltry thing. You get the sense that it is little more than an afterthought. Clearly, the visual arts have never thrived here, and, barring a stroke of fortune, possibly never will. While Jefferson had an educated eye, he seems not to have... More

On the campus at UVA this small two floor museum is just the right size for a quality visit. We saw a collection of Jacob Lawrence and another eclectic exhibit owned by various alumni.

Both of my kids have been to the Fralin Museum on field trips through our school. I went on both trips and both times the guides did a fantastic job.

There were many interesting pieces from many time periods. I was impressed with the time span that was available. There was a children exhibit that was compelling and thought provoking. It had so many pieces and a huge span of time from the oldest piece to the newest piece. There were sculptures, paintings, and pictures.

We've been here almost 8 years and this was our first visit. Our last art museum visit was the Chicago Institute of Art and there is no comparison. That was pricey with lots and lots and lots of art and lots and lots and lots of people. Even before entering, we were impressed by the three-story-high crape myrtles in full... More

This museum is quite impressive for a university collection. The current showing of art dealing with the nature of line(s) is very interesting. Be sure and look up for the interesting quotes from artists represented in the display. An hour will get you through this museum and you will not feel overwhelmed.

We spent a little over an hour there and saw everything which was on display. Interesting exhibit (may not be permanent) or drawings of self portraits. Very insightful signs next to the items. Free. Difficult for anyone who is handicapped.

This is a small museum, but there are often interesting exhibits and the space is beautiful and well used. It's free, too! No reason not to visit if you're an art lover.

This is not a gigantic museum but it's right on campus & worth a peek if you are visiting. They have some unusual pieces of sculpture from the late 20th C which was fun to see.
